About the role:

We’re looking for a Director of Finance to join our global Finance Team. This role will be based in Spain, while collaborating with team members located in various regions, including the US. 

As Director of Finance you will be responsible for financial and commercial analysis, processes, forecasting, and reporting. You possess strong business acumen, excellent analytical skills, and a driven personality motivated by complex challenges. You also thrive in a fast-paced business environment characterized by quick decisions and tight deadlines.  As Director of Finance, you will play a pivotal role in guiding Edpuzzle’s financial direction, ensuring sustainable growth, and maximizing the company’s impact. You will lead the finance team with integrity, vision, and a steadfast commitment to Edpuzzle’s mission. 

This position reports directly to the CEO.

About the job:

    • Manage the annual budget, align it with strategic goals, and update financial forecasts. Conduct detailed financial analysis to identify trends and opportunities. Plan and execute capital allocation based on strategic financial planning, analysis, and budgeting priorities.
    • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements and management reports, and maintain compliance with financial regulations and standards. 
    • Identify and manage financial risks that could impact the company’s stability and reputation. Devise risk mitigation strategies, implement internal control systems, enforce financial policies, and ensure strict adherence to regulatory guidelines and reporting standards. Stay abreast of changes in tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance and optimize tax planning strategies. 
    • Collaborate with senior leadership to execute the strategic plan, evaluate investments, and monitor business performance. Provide leadership and guidance on financial matters, acting as a trusted advisor to senior management and stakeholders.
    • Oversee and manage the company’s investment portfolio, including evaluation and management of potential mergers and acquisitions. Conduct due diligence for potential investments and acquisitions, providing financial insights and risk assessments.
    • Manage, guide, and lead the finance team to develop their skills and ensure finance staff are highly motivated and perform to the highest standards.
    • Oversee cash flow forecasting, manage treasury functions, and optimize working capital.
    • Develop and maintain a financial contingency plan to manage potential crises and ensure business continuity. Conduct regular risk assessments and stress tests to evaluate the company’s financial resilience.
    • Present financial reports to the board and other stakeholders, manage investor relations, and collaborate across departments.
    • Implement and improve financial systems and processes to enhance efficiency and data integrity. Leverage financial technology to streamline operations and reporting. Ensure integration of financial systems with other enterprise systems (e.g., CRM, ERP), as necessary, for seamless data flow and accurate reporting.
    • Manage the external audit, tax, banking, and other required accounting and finance relationships as needed. Identify and cultivate strategic partnerships that align with the company’s financial and business goals. Negotiate terms and manage relationships with key partners and vendors as required.
    • Collaborate with the operations department to develop and manage operational budgets, optimize procurement and vendor management, track and analyze KPIs, and implement process improvements and risk management strategies. Ensure alignment between financial and operational goals to enhance efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and overall business performance.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
    • This is a full-time position of 40 hours per week.

About you:

    • At least 15 years of relevant progressive work experience in finance or accounting roles, with substantial time spent in senior leadership positions.
    • Significant experience in the SaaS software industry is mandatory.
    • Preference for candidates with public accounting experience, though not mandatory.
    • Proven track record of leadership experience, managing finance teams and leading financial operations.
    • A background in corporate development, with experience in strategic partnerships and M&A activities, is highly desirable.
    • A bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field.
    • An MBA, Master's degree in finance or accounting, CPA or CFA is highly desirable.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
    • Proficient in the use of financial software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Hyperion) and advanced Excel skills.
    • Deep understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP) and/or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
    • Able to lead, manage, and develop teams in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Capable of setting clear performance expectations, fostering a positive and inclusive work culture, mentoring and coaching team members, managing team performance, and driving professional development initiatives to enhance team capabilities and productivity.
    • High ethical standards and integrity in handling financial matters.
    • Proactive in identifying financial issues and opportunities for improvement. 
    • Fluent in English and Spanish. 
    • Availability to travel will be required from time to time to fulfill business needs. 

Bonus skills:

    • Experience interacting with stakeholders from different countries, subject to different (business) cultures.
    • Be based in Barcelona, Madrid, Girona or Zaragoza would be a plus
    • Skilled in dealing with different ways of thinking, communication styles, and business practices to achieve successful outcomes. 
    • Fluency in additional languages will be a plus.
