About Education at Work
Education At Work (EAW) enables low and middle-income college students to secure a high-quality postgraduate job through evidence-informed work-based learning programs. EAW aims to equip students with the high-value skills and experiences sought in the professional world by offering meaningful work opportunities.

The Opportunity
For several reasons, customer support is crucial in modern business operations, making it indispensable as an operational area of focus across multiple business sectors, including finance, health care, and IT. This Forbes article argues that “Customer service is not a department. It is a philosophy to be embraced by every employee—from the CEO to the most recently hired.” In addition to building your soft skills and gaining valuable work experience, our work-based learning programs also offer the opportunity to gain technical skills.

Customer support is a rich professional development source, particularly in skills needed in many job sectors. EAW consults industry leaders and researchers to ensure that our skills and experiences support students on their path to a good first job. Here are some of the essential skills you will further develop and be able to demonstrate to future employers from your EAW:

● Effective Communication in a business environment
● Problem-Solving
● Dependability and a Strong Work Ethic
● Adaptability and flexibility
● Teamwork and Collaboration

You can earn an hour wage of $12/hr. ($13/hr. if you work 25+ hours per week) and up to $5,250 each year with our tax-free tuition assistance paid directly to your college or university. That means you can potentially earn up to $16/per hour!

Check out all the details on our Tuition Assistance policy here: http://educationatwork.org/faqs/

What Will You Be Doing?
You will be working as an Outbound Phone Transfer agent taking roughly 40 calls per hour. You would not be taking payments yourself - your main responsibility would be to update contact information, review scripted disclosures, and transfer card holders to an account specialist who would handle the account further.

What Are We Looking For?

    • Students who are patient communicators and comfortable speaking with people over the phone
    • Students who are responsible and able to handle a professional job in a business environment–this includes punctuality/attendance expectations, receptive to consistent feedback and coaching, and adaptability with a positive attitude, etc.
    • Students who are able to work at least 20 hours per week – with the opportunity to work up to 30 hours per week during the school year and up to 39 hours during school breaks, (subject to our business needs)
    • Students who are able to work year round – including the school breaks including summer and winter break

Perks of Our Positions

    • Tuition Assistance – We’re 100% behind our mission of helping you graduate with less debt
    • Future Career Building – EAW students have the unique opportunity to work with Discover while in college, creating a leg up on potential summer internships or full-time employment with our partners after you graduate
    • Student-Friendly Environment – Everyone we employee on this program is a student, usually from ASU or a near-by college, creating a supportive community that understands the life of a working student (plus it’s a great place to make friends)
    • Student-Centric Schedule – We will always work around your class schedule to ensure you never have to work while you’re supposed to be in class
    • Promotions – EAW offers a variety of student leadership positions in multiple departments like recruiting, IT, training, etc. as we love giving our students the chance to move up and grow into different positions
    • Location – We’re located at University Towers, close to the UTEP campus.

What’s Not So Perky About Our Positions

    • We have strict attendance and punctuality expectations – this is a professional job and we’ll hold you to that
    • This is a routine phone work position which may be repetitive at times – including back-to-back primarily scripted 1-2 minute phone calls and long periods of sitting down
    • Some shifts start at 6 a.m. (MT) which may be difficult for those non-morning people – although we do offer a $1 per hour raise for worked hours between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. (MT).
    • Not only do we work around your class schedule, but we also work around all of our students class schedules – this means we don’t always have the ability to work around other obligations (club meetings, social events, second jobs, internships, etc.) and expect you to make this job a primary part of your life (second to school – of course!)
    • We’re a PCI Compliant Area – meaning that in your work space you won’t be able to have any paper, pens, electric devices like cell phones or smart watches – but you will have access to those personal items on breaks or lunches
