Encore Renewable Energy’s growing Engineering Team seeks a highly motivated, electrical focused “Project Engineer” to work with our EPC team and external engineering partners and developers. Primary focus will be on the design, technical management, and implementation of successful solar and energy storage projects.
The Project Engineer will be responsible for supporting the engineering team in all the Company’s various engineering related activities. This is a high-skill level position, requiring an experienced and talented professional who can fit in well with the
Encore culture of productivity, growth, and performance. The Project Engineer will report to the Sr. Director of Engineering.
Preference for residency within VT, NY, ME, PA, RI, Washington DC, SC, GA, AL, IL, MI, and CO. New locations considered on a case-by-case basis.
Your responsibilities
- Engineering design and development support for DG and community scale solar and energy storage projects.
- Develop and review electrical design documents using AutoCAD and PVCase. Deliverables include, but are not limited to, single-line diagrams (SLDs), three-line diagrams, equipment and advanced 3D array layouts.
- Understanding of AC and DC conduit and cable sizing, Data Acquisition System (DAS), Wiring and grounding schematics, Construction details, Hazard Labels and markings drawings.
- Specify and size electrical equipment (inverters, transformers, switchgear, racking, module, DAS and BOS components in coordination with procurement.
- Support the management of external civil engineering and electrical engineering firms
- Review external Civil, Racking, Geotechnical and Electrical designs.
- Conduct power system studies (load flow, short-circuit, protection coordination).
- Ensure compliance with NEC, IEEE, UL, and local utility interconnection standards for Solar and BESS designs.
- Review utility interconnection docs: System Impact Studies, IX estimates, Facilities Studies, Generator Interconnection Agreements, Transmission and Fast Track studies.
- Run detailed production models with complex shading scenes, topography and optimized layouts using PVSyst.
- Review equipment submittals from external EPC/Contractors.
- Perform QA/QC of installed systems and support troubleshooting during commissioning.
- Interface with EPCs, vendors, utilities, and AHJs to resolve technical issues.
- Work closely with project managers, finance, and permitting teams to align on project goals and move projects successfully through pre construction and construction phases.
- Help manage flow of project deliverables from across the project lifecycle.
- Provide remote support and review of construction and commissioning procedures.
- Provide input and responses to contractor “Request for Information" during construction phase of a project.
- Identify key risk factors and determine interconnection feasibility to support site acquisition and new market feasibility.
- Assist Asset Management Team to help troubleshoot and monitor operational assets and help determine corrective action as necessary.
- Research and keep Company current with new technologies and regulatory conditions including building codes, fire codes, utility requirements, vendor qualifications, industry best practices, safety standards, etc.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Your skills and experiences
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field or similar set of experiences; EIT or PE preferred.
- 3–6 years of relevant technical/design experience in solar PV or power systems engineering.
- 3-6 years of experience using AutoCAD with an understanding of layer control, scaling, sheet sets, xrefs, blocks, and plot files.
- Strong knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE1547, UL standards, and utility interconnection protocols.
- Experience with design tools like AutoCAD, PVcase, PVSyst, and ETAP/SKM.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple projects at the same time.
- Willingness to travel for site visits and project support (up to 10%).
- Diligent, detailed oriented, and dynamic. Able to self-organize priorities, set and work to deadlines, often with limited direct oversight

Additional skills or experiences
- Experience with energy storage systems (ESS) or hybrid systems (solar + BESS).
- NABCEP Certified
- Familiarity with distributed energy regulations and permitting.
- Hands-on electrical field experience or construction oversight
- Proficient in PVsyst, MS Excel, MS Word and GIS.
