Friendship Hospital for Animals is seeking veterinary technician assistant to join our Friendship Oncology Specialists’ team.
A successful candidate should have a strong interest in the field of veterinary oncology, a basic technical skill set, and the ability to work systematically, paying close attention to detail. The individual must be self-sufficient, and have some knowledge of the commonly treated diseases, medications, and testing protocols within the oncology service. It is also imperative that they are able to work well and efficiently with the rest of the oncology team, as well as the entire Friendship Hospital for Animals staff.
Responsibilities
- Assist with routine clinical testing and procedures including but not limited to (blood draws, blood pressures, IV catheter placement, biopsy preparation, etc.)
- Strong client communication skills and desire to build and maintain client relationships; able to explain things clearly with a high level of comfort, tact, and empathy.
- Proper handling of chemotherapeutic agents, follow all safety protocols, and a willingness to learn about these.
- Assist doctors and techs with calculation and administration of chemotherapy and other medications.
- Knowledge of chemotherapy safety or willingness to learn.
- Proper handling and submission of laboratory samples.
- Assist with medical record keeping and client communication.
- Ability to remain calm in stressful patient situations.
- Commitment to providing the highest standard of patient care.
- Willingness to learn new skills and accept constructive feedback.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements, Skills, and Abilities
- Two or more years of veterinary experience strongly preferred
- Excellent communication skills
- A positive attitude
- Outstanding animal handling skills
- Ability to lift 40 pounds
- Ability to work well on a team
- Ability to work in a fast paced high stress environment
- Ability to use computers and required software
$20 - $25 an hour
