Friendship Hospital for Animals provides high quality, compassionate veterinary care to the dogs and cats of the Washington D.C. metro area. We are a large and growing practice providing wellness care, urgent and emergency care, and hospitalization. Friendship has several specialty departments including critical care, oncology, neurology, cardiology, internal medicine, and orthopedic surgery. We are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a full-time Laboratory Technician.
The Laboratory Technician is responsible for running and maintaining the lab. The technician must follow all safety, cleaning, and procedural guidelines. The technician is responsible for receiving samples from hospital staff, running appropriate tests, and communication with the hospital staff.
The schedule for this position after training is Sun-Wed pm.
The responsibilities of this job include, but are not limited to the following:
- Ability to follow appropriate procedures for specimen handling and processing
- Ability to follow the laboratory quality control policies
- Follow OSHAs laboratory safety policies
- Operate and trouble shoot in house equipment including chemistry machine (IDEXX Catalyst), CBC machine (IDEXX ProCyte), SNAP testing, etc
- Operate and trouble shoot centrifuge and micro hematocrit centrifuge
- Other duties as assigned
