Friendship Hospital for Animals is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic veterinary technician to join our specialty surgery team. They will primarily be responsible for providing nursing care support to the surgery service, including performing diagnostics, bandaging and wound care, and discharging patients from the hospital. All support staff within the service will require exceptional client communication skills, organizational skills, problem solving skills, a proactive nature, an advanced knowledge of surgical procedures, and an ability to work in and around multiple disciplines within Friendship Hospital for Animals. The ideal candidate would be someone who’s positive and enjoys working both with a team and independently. There is currently a signing bonus available for eligible candidates.

The technicians for Friendship Surgical Specialists (FSS) works closely with the entire FSS team to ensure the service runs smoothly and efficiently. They are primarily responsible for providing nursing care support to the surgery service, including performing diagnostics, performing bandage and wound care, and discharging patients from the hospital. All support staff within the service will require exceptional client communication skills, organizational skills, problem solving skills, a proactive nature, an advanced knowledge of surgical procedures, and an ability to work in and around multiple disciplines within Friendship Hospital for Animals. It is important for the FSS technician to understand the desire to grow the service through the provision of quality surgical care, unparalleled communication with the referring veterinarian and client, and the conveyance of empathy and care for our clients and patients.

Signing bonus for LVT/RVT/CVT or at least 2 years of applicable surgical experience to be dispersed half on first paycheck and remainder after 90 days.

Responsibilities:

    • Working collaboratively with the entire Friendship team
    • Knowledge of sterile field and basic OR protocols
    • Check-in surgical patients; obtain pre-operative vital signs
    • Check-in drop-off patients
    • Coordinate and administer sedation for patients
    • Assist surgeon on appointment days by triaging patients and assisting with necessary diagnostics
    • Maintain tech appointment schedule of patient recheck radiographs, bandage care, and suture removals
    • Ensure appropriate charging of services
    • Assist with getting paperwork and referral letters completed
    • Care for patients in second floor treatment area; make sure treatments are completed and when appropriate patients have food/water/walks/meds/etc.
    • Other duties as assigned
