The neurology anesthesia technician is responsible for performing anesthesia and coordinating anesthetic procedures, specifically in the neurology department, though maintaining cross-training in other areas as needed. This position also involves a comprehensive knowledge and skill set of surgical procedures, instrumentation, surgical site preparation and sterile technique. These technicians will work under the supervision of our neurologists and anesthesiologist.
Responsibilities
- Prepare scheduled CT/MR patients for their scans (drugs calculated, approved, charged, and filled, anesthesia sheet prepared, circuits and ET tube selected) if assigned to Imaging
- Attend daily rounds
- Ensure preparation for the day to anesthetize patients
- Able to induce anesthesia, intubate, and maintain the patient in a suitable plane of anesthesia
- Management of anesthetic emergencies under the direction of a veterinarian
- Have a good knowledge of all anesthetic and analgesic medication used at FHA and their side effects
- Follow protocols for imaging patients as dictated by FHA Anesthesiologists and Neurologists
- Proper maintenance and operation of all anesthetic equipment and other equipment related to the service
- Maintain a sterile field
- Knowledgeable about surgical instruments, their use, and their care
- Recover patients and transfer back to admitting service
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements, Skills, and Abilities
- Licensed technician or equivalent
- Complete scope of tech skills to work with critical and surgical patients
- Flexible schedule
- On-call for neurology procedures
