About The Engine
The Engine is a home for Tough Tech founders building the next generation of world-changing companies. Founded by MIT, The Engine’s mission is to bridge the gap between discovery and commercialization by empowering disruptive technologies with the long-term capital, knowledge, network connections, and the specialized equipment and labs they need to thrive. With about 30,000 sq. ft. of space in Central Square, Cambridge, our building includes offices, meeting spaces, bio & chem labs, and a maker shop.

What is a Community Operations Associate?
Our Community Operations Team ensures that the daily operations at The Engine run smoothly and efficiently. Our lean team works together to take on any task— big or small— all while maintaining a "can do" attitude. The team makes sure that residents and guests feel taken care of, the physical space is functional and organized, and events are well-planned and run smoothly. Some work will be independent while other work requires collaboration with members of the team or The Engine staff.

Areas of responsibility
Manage & maintain the kitchen and common areas throughout the day
Set up printer drivers and VoIP phones; troubleshoot conference room projectors, Apple TV, audio system, printers and wifi issues; coordinate with our IT company when necessary.
Greet visitors warmly and ensure an efficient hand-off to their host.
Receive deliveries and alert recipients; keep mailroom organized.
Monitor & program building access badges; periodically update database system to ensure accurate information.
Order groceries and office supplies in a timely manner; maintain an inventory of stocked, clean, and organized refrigerators and supply closets.
Provide support with event planning and execution; place and receive catering orders; set-up/breakdown furniture; work with host to ensure all preparation details are addressed.
Communicate internal events, offerings, and building updates to member companies.
Maintain database system; onboard & offboard companies and residents
Synthesize & present monthly space utilization reports
Source & maintain relationships with vendors and our property management company; triage issues and place service calls; schedule routine equipment service and warranty appointments.
Anticipate and prepare move-in & move-out of companies and residents; understand their needs at all times.
Assemble and move furniture between offices when needed; ensure basic cleaning of vacant spaces.
Assist the Engine staff with projects
Complete other errands and tasks as needed

Qualities of the ideal candidate

Independent, reliable, and willing to learn.
Curious about tech with the capacity to learn and provide basic tech support.
Feel comfortable with basic power tools (e.g. using a drill).Bring a fresh perspective and new ideas for improving experience and efficiency.
Appropriately social with fellow team members, guests, and staff.

Job requirements
A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
Relevant professional work experience
The ability to work on a full-time basis from Monday through Friday, including some early mornings and late evenings
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Google Apps
Ability to lift 35 lbs.
