The Engine is looking for motivated, fast-paced individuals to join our team and who are excited to help build a tough tech community in our new facility. We are hiring for a Late July start date.

About The Engine:
The Engine opened its doors in June of 2017 to founders of early-stage companies working on disruptive technology. Founded by MIT, The Engine’s mission is to provide capital, resources, and comprehensive support to help founders build the next generation of world-changing companies. We are growing to a new 155,000 SF building in Central Square, Cambridge in September 2022.  Our building will include offices, meeting spaces, bio & chem labs, and maker/fabrication space.

What is a Facilities Associate?
We are seeking a creative and motivated Facilities Associate to assist in day-to-day facilities operations and serve as the daily contact for facilities requests at one of our 3 sites: The Engine at 750 Main, The Engine at Tyler St, and The Engine at 501 Mass Ave. The Facilities Associate will have the primary responsibility for ensuring the building, lab, and offices are running  in a friendly, clean, and efficient manner. Working closely with the Senior Director of Facilities and Safety, additional responsibilities will focus on building a wider platform for resident space planning, lab operation assistance, and overall infrastructure to better serve the people and companies at The Engine. 

Areas of Responsibility

    • Provide day-to-day facility operations support and maintenance (daily calls, coordinating work with landlord and trades when required, daily upkeep)
    • Coordinate areas including building infrastructure (plumbing, electrical, HVAC), janitorial services, security, and shipping & receiving
    • Point-of-contact for residents at The Engine for facility requests
    • Update and maintain facilities logs
    • Perform hands-on repairs and maintenance, including daily walkthroughs, patching/painting, minor HVAC/Plumbing repair, lightbulb replacement, door adjustments, hanging shelves, and parcel shipping/receiving
    • Move planning and execution – coordinating with residents and vendors
    • Monitor facilities spend against budget
    • Supervise vendors during off work hours, including weekends, when necessary

Qualifications of an ideal candidate

    • Mission-oriented, energetic and upbeat with the resilience and demeanor to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment, while remaining calm and composed
    • Effective communication skills
    • Highly value teamwork
    • Ability to prioritize work, organize and handle multiple projects simultaneously
    • Interface with residents of The Engine at all levels
    • Take ownership over tasks and follow them through to completion
    • Detail-oriented and very organized, with solid time management skills
    • Independent, reliable, and willing to learn
    • Appropriately social with fellow team members, guests, and staff

Additional Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related facilities management experience
    • Experience in Biotech industry (2-3 years+) with a technical background preferred
    • Project Management skills preferred
    • Clear written communication
    • Strong organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills
    • Feel comfortable with basic power tools (e.g. using a drill)
    • Ability to lift 50 lbs
