Lab Operations & Safety Manager
The Lab Operations and Safety role is a hands on position that will oversee our current day to day operations, buildout projects, and our continuously evolving lab operations systems. This position will oversee our Bio & Chem labs, and Fab space while interacting with our resident teams to help maximize their productivity and effectiveness. You must understand all safety implications and compliance necessary to run these different spaces, and be willing to adapt and think creatively to help our teams and their unique workflows. You must have the ability to work at a fast pace, be flexible, creative, and efficient, and have a solution oriented mindset.
Oversee and lead the day to day operation of the labs, ensuring operational efficiency and safety for the resident teams and staff
Ensure compliance with laboratory facilities standard operating procedures and best practices including oversight of all safety & training requirements
Oversee all project hazard analysis, registration and lab safety compliance; Work with resident teams to use lab space efficiently and develop protocols for specific projects
Develop standard operating procedures for the start-up and shutdown of all shared equipment
Oversee IBC and manage approval process for all in-house projects
Maintain equipment and instruments in good working order; coordinate service contracts, preventative maintenance and repairs with vendors and scientific staff; maintain equipment database information
Manage procurement operations of CAPEX and OPEX
Inventory management, ordering and receiving of supplies and consumables for common materials and and company specific needs
Manage all shared workspace and equipment to best serve our community; Create a collaborative environment for residents
Create and Manage annual lab operating budget
Work directly with EHS consultants to manage liquid and solid waste pickups and proper storage of chemical and biohazard waste.
BS in Biology, Bioengineering, Material Science, Chemical Engineering or other related field with research experience
6+ years of lab experience in the life sciences or wet chemistry required.
3+ years lab management required.
Demonstrated knowledge of regulations of biohazard facilities and biological and chemical material handling.
Experience in performing and analyzing research projects under minimal supervision.
In-depth instrument and software knowledge along with an understanding of workflow efficiencies in multiple lab environments
Ability to prepare and track budgets.
Ability to manage conflict well and actively manage stakeholders.
Strong organization skills and attention to detail.
Strong communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to lead small projects independently.
User and Equipment Database management skills also desired
