This is an exciting time at Enovix! We are looking for experienced candidates to help support our new lithium-ion battery production facility in Penang, Malaysia for commercialization of our 3D Silicon™ Lithium-ion Rechargeable Battery.

Enovix is seeking a Director, Process Engineering for Enovix’ coating team to produce our revolutionary high energy density Silicon batteries. The candidate will be responsible for leading the team and external development partners in all things coating -- process development with associated controls and CTQs, defining and executing scale-up strategy in-house and at development partners, procurement of in-house coating line equipment and overall operations. The successful candidate will possess strong hands-on operations/manufacturing experience, program-management, people-management, troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills, a demonstrate ability to clearly communicate to cross-functional teams both inside and outside of the organization.

Responsibilities

    • Expertise and minimum 12 years of experience in manufacturing/NPI; expertise in taking technology from concept to high-vol manufacturing with solid DFx methodologies.
    • Set direction and provide technical leadership for process development (in-house or external): mixing, coating, familiarity of handling organic solvents including rheology analysis and characterization of materials.
    • Experience working with suppliers and procurement team towards machine definition and development;
    • Communicate plans and schedules in a clear and concise manner to internal engineering and executive organizations as well as to external suppliers and customers; anticipate, assess, and manage risks associated with project timelines and deliverables.
    • Collaborate with operations and equipment engineers to ensure equipment installation, troubleshooting, and documentation.
    • Drive process technology from validation at pilot scales to the scale-up in mass production at multiple sites of manufacturing with high-yields and quality.
    • Define and implement metrics to monitor key performances using statistical process control. Ensure stable process with enhanced repeatability and robustness.
    • Perform failure analysis on electrode coatings and to ensure continuous performance improvements.
    • Conducts coating process optimization utilizing continuous improvement tools that improves properties, output, yield, quality, waste & cost.
    • Develop and manage risk assessments to prioritize process improvement projects.
    • Knowledge of current state of art lithium-ion electrode development, advanced coating technology and production process.
    • Manage SOP’s, specifications, raw material supply and quality control of incoming materials and products.

Qualifications

    • B.S. in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry or Physics with 12+ years of related work experience with strong materials and process background.
    • Process development and integration experience with a track record of successful implementation; Industrial experience with ramp up process and equipment in high-volume manufacturing environment is required.
    • Management experience and demonstrated ability to motivate and align internal and external teams is required; demonstrated ability to manage a team across multiple geographies is preferred.
    • Experiences with roll-to-roll manufacturing process including mixer, calender, coater, slitter equipment are preferred.
    • In-dept understanding and working knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC), pilot/mass-production process development, D/PFMEA, Design of Experiments (DOE), and data analysis.
    • Design and data analysis experience with tools like JMP, Tableau, R, Python, or equivalent.
    • Six Sigma green belt is preferred.
    • Excellent communication skills: verbal, written, documentation, and presentation.
    • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and ability to react to shifting priorities to meet business needs and deadlines.
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and efficiently with cross functional teams, customers, internal and external partners.
    • Enthusiasm for problem solving, trouble shooting, and learning.
