Purpose of Job 
 
As a Manager of a Quality Engineering POD, the incumbent will hold a pivotal role in driving excellence and innovation in software testing practices across the Digital Banking pilar.  Your primary responsibility will be to establish presence and lead a centralized hub of expertise (8+ QAs), resources, and best practices to elevate the quality of software testing efforts and outcomes. You will work closely with cross-functional teams/PODs to define, implement, maintain and train Quality Engineers, to continuously improve testing strategies, methodologies, and processes. 
 
Based on experience and portfolio needs, the Manager, Quality Engineer will also include people management responsibilities.  The Manager will be required to functionally manage their resources and also hire, coach, and develop their direct reports. 

Challenges:

    • Main Activities: 
    • People Management Responsibilities (20%)  
    • Leadership: Provide leadership to the Quality Engineering Enablement POD and cross functional PODs, inspiring a culture of collaboration, excellence, and continuous improvement. 
    • Training & Development: Develop and deliver training programs, workshops, and mentoring sessions to enhance the skills and competencies of Quality Engineers.  Focus should also be placed on coaching and developing the QA enablement POD team members. 
    • Quality Assurance Responsibilities (80%)  
    • Strategy Development: Assist in delivering the strategic direction and roadmap of the Quality Engineering Enablement POD, aligning it with organizational goals and priorities. 
    • Knowledge Management: Establish mechanisms for capturing, documenting, and sharing testing knowledge, experiences, and best practices across the Digital Banking pilar. 
    • Process Standardization: Standardize testing processes, methodologies, and tools to ensure consistency, efficiency, and effectiveness across PODs. 
    • Quality Assurance: Implement quality assurance measures and metrics to assess the effectiveness and maturity of testing practices and drive continuous improvement, from Initiation to the Transcend state. 
    • Innovation and Research: Stay abreast of emerging trends, technologies, and industry best practices in software testing, and lead initiatives to innovate and experiment with new approaches. 
    • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with key stakeholders, including senior leadership and cross-functional PODs, to understand their needs and requirements and ensure alignment with QA Enablement objectives. 
    • Performance Measurement: Define key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure the impact and effectiveness of the QA Enablement POD initiatives and activities. 
    • Change Management: Champion a culture of change and transformation, facilitating the adoption of new testing methodologies, tools, and practices across the Digital Banking pilar. 

You have

    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field. 
    • Have 10+ years of experience in software development testing   
    • Have 5+ years of expertise in testing methodologies, tools, and practices with advanced automation in API and UI environments  
    • Have 3+ years of proven people management experience (managing team sizes ranging from 5 – 10+ QA engineers on/off shores)  
    • Preferred working experience in an Enterprise Banking or Established FinTech  
    • Preferred certifications such as ISTQB, CSTE, or equivalent  
    • Strong strategic thinking and planning skills, with the ability to execute the vision of the QA Enablement POD.  
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills, with the ability to engage and inspire stakeholders at all levels. 
    • Experience in agile methodology and change management, driving organizational change and adoption of new practices. 
    • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

The incumbent will be working hybrid and in office time will be spent working from Equitable Bank’s additional office space located at 351 King Street East, Toronto, ON.
