Position Overview

This is a highly strategic role working with the Group Head and the executive team to develop the Commercial Banking strategy and monitor its successful implementation. The role is accountable for devising strategies and overseeing initiatives to enable growth and profitability within Commercial Banking. The role requires experience providing thought partnership to the senior executive level, overseeing transformational change including M&A, and ensuring continuous improvement and successful delivery within the Commercial Banking team. The role oversees a team of seasoned senior leaders driving operational excellence and enabling Commercial Banking’s various business units.

Main Activities

    • Develop and lead the Commercial Banking strategy in collaboration with Commercial Group Head and the senior leadership team
    • Provide thought partnership to Commercial Banking executive team, e.g. scoping of opportunities, growth and profitability opportunities, external partnerships.
    • Provide guidance and oversight for enterprise initiatives for Commercial Banking, e.g. BPI, consumer research
    • Oversee business analytics and regular reporting for Commercial Banking, uncovering and enabling growth and profitability opportunities
    • Oversee Deposits operations for Concentra’s Credit Union Business, including driving increased digitization and operational improvement
    • Drive the methodology and tracking of continuous process improvements for Commercial Banking and enable Group Head to hold executive team accountable for success
    • Oversee special projects across the Commercial Banking space, including the interface with broader enterprise and external partners, e.g. development of IT roadmap, etc.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

    • University degree, MBA preferred
    • Minimum 15 years’ experience including executive roles and P&L ownership
    • Proven ability in driving strategic planning at Group or Enterprise level
    • Executive experience leading transformation or Group level change management initiatives
    • Strategic thinking with the ability to understand market dynamics and trends and how to integrate into the broader business strategy
    • Ability to prioritize competing demands and use data to inform decision-making and articulate trade offs for respective businesses and broader portfolio
    • Strong coach and mentor, with a passion for building and developing people and teams
    • Proven ability to communicate at all levels of the organization, including CEO level
    • Collaborator with strong influencing skills and the ability to align stakeholders across teams

The incumbent will be working hybrid and in office time will be spent working from Equitable Bank’s additional office space located at 351 King Street East, Toronto, ON.
