ERG is seeking a highly skilled Chemical Engineer with gun propellant experience to join our team. The ideal candidate will have over 3 years of experience, with a strong preference for those who have worked on gun propellants for at least 1-2 years. This role requires hands-on experience in gun propellant formulation development, manufacturing, or research and development. 
 
This position will be full-time at the federal site in Indian Head, MD. It will include interaction and support from ERG personnel at the federal site and ERG’s Chantilly and Arlington offices. Indian Head is approximately 30 miles from Washington, DC, 25 miles from Alexandria, VA, and 60 miles from Fredericksburg, VA. Flexible work schedules may be considered. 

Job Description:

    • Research, develop, formulate, and manufacture gun propellants, including single-base, double-base, triple-base, nitramine, and extruded propellants. 
    • Perform all aspects of engineering duties in support of material and end-item production. 
    • Perform engineering calculations that support process design, equipment configuration, and process condition establishment decisions. 
    • Analyze existing or planned equipment and processes for optimization, changes, and maintenance. 
    • Perform market research and work with client procurement processes and organizations to obtain the necessary equipment for conducting operations. 
    • Prepare, review, and edit technical documentation such as standard operating procedures (SOPs), equipment and facility drawings, and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs). 
    • Perform engineering, safety, and quality control analyses. 
    • Collaborate/communicate effectively with stakeholders internal to, and external to, the engineering team (e.g., quality testing and manufacturing departments). 
    • Lead, manage, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize production and development processes. 
    • Ensure adherence to safety and quality standards in all processes. 

Qualifications and Skills:

    • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering. 
    • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience; hands-on experience with gun propellant formulation, manufacturing, or R&D preferred. 
    • Leadership experience in managing teams and projects. 
    • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. 
    • Strong interpersonal skills and self-motivation to engage with personnel and seek out paths toward solutions when original problem statements may seem vague. 
    • Strong organizational and planning skills, excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), meticulous attention to detail, highly motivated, and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks with limited oversight. 
    • Ability to multi-task, problem-solve, and quickly adapt to changing priorities. 
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite. 
    • Must currently hold or be able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret-level security clearance; Must be a U.S. citizen as this position is not eligible for Limited Access Authorizations. 
$100,000 - $150,000 a year
