Ready to make connectivity from space universally accessible, secure and actionable? Then you’ve come to the right place!
E-Space is bridging Earth and space to enable hyper-scaled deployments of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions and services. We are building a highly-advanced low Earth orbit (LEO) space system that will fundamentally change the design, economics, manufacturing and service delivery associated with traditional satellite and terrestrial IoT systems.
We’re intentional, we’re unapologetically curious and we’re 100% committed to innovate space-based communications and deliver actionable intelligence that will expand global economies, protect space and our planet and enhance our overall quality of life.
Are you ready to help build the future of 5G and space-based connectivity?
E-Space is redefining global communications by combining advanced software-defined networking with scalable, secure, space-based infrastructure. We are seeking a Software Engineer, 5G to join our core development team working on physical layer implementation and validation of 5G communication systems using software-defined radios.
As a Software Engineer focused on 5G, you will contribute to the development, integration, and testing of the physical layer for 5G modem implementations based on 3GPP Releases 15, 16, 17, and beyond. Your work will focus on implementing physical layer algorithms, integrating them on embedded platforms, and validating functionality through lab-based test setups using SDRs and RF equipment.
This position reports to the Sr. Director of Product and System Integration, Silicon, and will work closely with systems, software, hardware, and test teams responsible for delivering the communications payload. This role is based in our Saratoga, CA office.
What you will do:
- Implement and optimize 5G physical layer algorithms (e.g., synchronization, channel estimation, equalization, modulation/demodulation) in C/C++ for embedded platforms.
- Integrate and validate PHY functionality on software-defined radio (SDR) platforms.
- Develop control interfaces for SoC peripherals and RF front-end devices (e.g., SPI, I2C).
- Create and run test cases to verify performance and standards compliance of PHY layer.
- Debug and resolve implementation and integration issues using lab equipment and test frameworks.
- Use test equipment (e.g., R&S, Keysight) to validate signal quality and RF behavior.
- Work with hardware and RF teams to align software implementation with system design constraints.
- Document test procedures, results, and issue reports for cross-functional collaboration.
What you bring to this role:
- 7+ years of experience in wireless software development, signal processing, or embedded systems.
- Master’s degree in electrical engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Engineering, or related field.
- Strong experience with embedded C/C++ software development.
- Hands-on experience with SDR platforms and signal processing implementation.
- Familiarity with real-time constraints and SoC integration.
- Working knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB) for automation and analysis.
- Experience with RF test tools and signal validation.
- Understanding of 5G PHY layer concepts and digital communication fundamentals.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Bonus points for the following:
- Experience working with 3GPP Rel 15/16/17+ PHY layer specifications.
- Familiarity with Non-Terrestrial-Networks (NTN) or satellite systems.
- Prior work with RTOS (e.g., Zephyr, FreeRTOS) or embedded Linux environments.
- Exposure to hardware acceleration interfaces and DSP integration.
- Experience with test automation, version control (Git), CI tools, and documentation platforms (JIRA, Confluence).
This is a full time, exempt position, based out of our Saratoga office. The target base pay for this position is $100,000 - $175,000 annually. The total compensation packaged will be determined by various factors such as your relevant job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
We are redefining how satellites are designed, manufactured and used—so we’re looking for candidates with passion, deep knowledge and direct experience on LEO satellite component development, design and in-orbit activities. If that’s your experience – then we’ll be immediately wow-ed.
E-Space is not currently able to provide employment sponsorship for candidates who do not hold work authorization for the location of this role.
