Why this role is important:

    • As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will be responsible for employing ’Design for X’ methodologies in every aspect of new product development. Through careful planning, experimentation, and automation you will be responsible for producing several spacecraft components: owning the process from an early prototype phase through high volume production. In this role, you will leverage your expertise in industrial process engineering to procure, design, validate, test, and operate an automated production system to create a uniquely designed, fully assembled spacecraft. 

    • This position will report to the Head of Manufacturing Engineering will be based in Arlington, TX. 

What you'll be doing:

    • Own the design and implementation of a new automated lithium-Ion battery production work center, plus other electronics-related projects as needed 
    • Conducts trade studies, establishes hardware requirements, designs mechanical components using CAD tools, and initiate procurement of automated manufacturing process equipment 
    • Collaborate cross-functionally with other subsystem engineers, providing DfX expertise to all product design teams 
    • Manage characterization, qualification, and acceptance testing of in-house material, process, and machine prototyping 
    • Identify and implement continuous improvement projects with respect to first pass yield, cycle time reduction, product reliability, capacity enhancement and cost reduction 
    • Provides technical support analyzing and /or performing failure analysis for discrepant production components, assemblies, and field returns 
    • Analyze product designs and existing manufacturing processes to identify risk, lead DFMEA/PFMEA reviews, and incorporate and validate critical tests used in manufacturing 
    • Support digital manufacturing initiatives by simulating production equipment digital twin’s and IIoT device integrations 
    • Create process documentation and lead operator training of manufacturing equipment 
    • Apply project management skills (schedule, cost, communications) and coordination of internal and external resources to execute projects in a timely and cost-effective manner 

What you will bring to this role:

    • You have a Bachelor’s/Master's/PhD of Science in Industrial, Mechanical, Design Engineering or equivalent, plus 3-7 years professional career experience in relevant fields 
    • You are hands-on, capable of safely operating various fabrication tools such as drill presses, power saws, soldering irons, vacuum chambers, etc. 
    • You have a solid understanding of continuous improvement methodologies such as LEAN and Six Sigma 
    • You have demonstrated success working in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary, small-team environment and ability to manage competing priorities 
    • You have the ability to travel internationally up to 25% of your time 

Extra points for the following:

    • You are certified Six Sigma Green/Black Belt 
    • You’ve previously been responsible formanaging a robotic or another form of industrial automation on a factory production line 
    • You’re familiar with traceability and quality requirements as dictated by AS9100  
$50,000 - $130,000 a year
