About the role:
 
Reporting to the Senior Scientist, Water Modelling, the Engineer or Scientist, Water Modelling is responsible for supporting the application of the Regional Water Quality Model and water quality data analyses to support mine planning and water management decisions at our steel-making coal operations.

This person has strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills and can effectively engage with professionals across departments and at varying levels of the organization. The ability to find solutions in a fast-paced, collaborative environment is vital.

In this role you will:

    • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies 
    • Collaborate with mine and water management planners to support the planning, design, and operation of water quality mitigation projects, regulatory applications, and mine plan evaluations 
    • Review water balance and water quality modelling work completed in-house and by our consultants
    • Communicate water modeling methods and results to internal and external stakeholders, such as regulators and Indigenous representatives 
    • Support studies to reduce model uncertainty and contribute to conceptual and numerical model improvements 
    • Support in the preparation and review of water modelling reports to meet permitting requirements and regulatory submissions 
    • Implement, update and support development of water management plans and tools, in alignment with long term site water management strategies, and regulatory authorizations 
    • Support continuous improvement and updating of water quality model

Requirements:

    • Engineering or Science degree in an environmental science related field, such as Hydrology, Hydrogeology or Geochemistry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience 
    • Relevant professional accreditation, or eligible for accreditation, such as the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C. (EGBC); EVR will support eligible employees with their EGBC registration 
    • Minimum of five years of relevant professional experience with a focus on flow and water quality modelling 
    • Technical knowledge of water quality planning tools and demonstrated experience in the application of GoldSim software 
    • Experience in mine planning, water management and knowledge of federal and provincial mining water practices and regulatory compliance is as asset
    • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
