Exosonic is a startup developing a quiet supersonic airliner to advance supersonic travel around the world without restrictions on overland flight. This means giving travelers the opportunity to travel from places like San Francisco to New York in only three hours, and making intercontinental travel possible in a day trip. In doing this, we are focused on building a sustainable future that everyone can take part in. Our small team includes experts with many years of aircraft development experience across several programs. 

We are seeking a full time aerodynamics engineer to assist in the conceptual design of this aircraft and related projects.

We are currently a fully remote team, but we will establish an office in the Los Angeles area when conditions allow. Ample time will be provided for relocation.

Job Responsibilities

    • Analyze aircraft aerodynamics and stability properties using a mix of aerodynamic tools including panel methods and CFD
    • Work with performance colleagues to integrate aerodynamic results into the full mission analysis process
    • Perform analysis of boom propagation both on and off-track in a variety of atmospheric conditions
    • Support wind tunnel testing through development of comparison databases
    • Clearly document findings and succinctly communicate them
    • Assist with other technical tasks as appropriate

Required Qualifications and Experience

    • Typical candidates for this role will range from those in their final year of an undergraduate program to those with a master’s degree and a couple years of experience
    • U.S. person status (work requires access to export controlled tools and information)
    • Knowledge of mesh generation and CFD analysis using Euler and RANS methods

Desired Qualifications and Experience

    • Experience with software development in languages such as Julia, Python, or C++
    • Experience using Pointwise in the development of meshes for CFD
    • Knowledge of mesh adaptation techniques
    • Knowledge of aircraft stability analysis
