The Field Operations Engineer at Exowatt will play a crucial role in testing, troubleshooting, and optimizing our P3 modules. This hands-on position involves deploying to test sites, conducting performance evaluations, and collaborating with engineering teams to improve system design. The ideal candidate is a problem-solver with field experience in mechanical, electrical, and thermal systems who thrives in dynamic environments.
This position is based in Miami, FL. If selected, relocation to Miami, FL is required. Exowatt provides relocation assistance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead field testing and commissioning of Exowatt’s optical, thermal, and power generation systems.
- Develop, execute, and document comprehensive test plans to validate system performance, efficiency, and durability.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and optimize thermal storage modules, solar concentrators, and power conversion systems in the field.
- Deploy to test sites and customer locations to support installations, system validation, and ongoing operational testing.
- Operate data acquisition systems to collect performance metrics and analyze results to drive system improvements.
- Coordinate field operations with internal engineering teams, external vendors, and logistics partners.
- Author detailed reports on test findings, system failures, and proposed design improvements.
- Contribute to system integration efforts, ensuring smooth deployment of hardware and software components.
- Train customers and field technicians on system operation, best practices, and maintenance procedures.
Required Qualifications:
- Preferred BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Controls, Embedded Systems, Energy Systems, or Industrial Systems.
- 5+ years of experience in field testing, commissioning, or operational support of mechanical, electrical, or thermal systems.
- Hands-on experience with high-temperature systems, heat exchangers, power generation units, or energy storage technologies.
- Strong troubleshooting skills, including ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical, and software-related issues.
- Proficiency with data acquisition systems, sensors, and control interfaces (PLC experience is a plus).
- Ability to read and interpret engineering schematics, P&IDs, and technical documentation.
- Experience leading on-site installations and coordinating with contractors or customers.
- Comfortable working in outdoor environments under variable conditions.
- Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time to support test operations and customer deployments.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform hands-on field work as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with heat engines, solar thermal systems, or thermal energy storage technologies.
- Background in renewable energy, power generation, or industrial thermal systems.
- Familiarity with Python, MATLAB, or other data analysis tools.
- Experience with electrical systems up to 480VAC and motor controls.
- Knowledge of safety procedures related to high-temperature materials and power generation equipment.
$125,000 - $160,000 a year
