Position description
 
Summary

Extreme Networks is looking for a strong Head of Wireless Engineering (WE) to provide strategic direction and leadership to the organization’s Wireless Engineering teams. This leader will be critical in expanding Extreme Networks’ global wireless engineering team as well as maintaining the organization’s position as an industry leader in wireless network services. The Head of WE will oversee a growing team of 150+, located in Canada, California, and India, and must lead by example, demonstrating the ability to develop innovative roadmaps and the capability to solve problems quickly as they arise. This individual will partner closely with the CTO and executive leadership team. The successful candidate will lead the development of a strong product release schedule, as well as launching new products and state-of-the-art solutions for enterprise customers as Extreme Networks continues to grow and expand into new markets. The Head of WE will develop and evolve functional excellence within engineering, taking ownership of the company’s overall key initiatives to drive sustainable competitive advantage through Extreme Networks’ total customer experience. The team is looking for this leader to be a strong mentor and team developer, driving recruitment, training, and upward mobility within the organization.

Cristian leads the architecture, execution, and delivery of Extreme’s Cloud, Enterprise, and Service Provider suite of differentiated products and technologies, driving an ever-improving experience for customers and end-users to further the success of Extreme’s portfolio and accelerate innovation in the entire networking sector.
 
Accountabilities
 
Align the engineering organization for optimal performance and alignment.

·        Assess the current wireless product engineering portfolio to ensure it is optimized to not only support innovation and improvement but also meet the needs of customers and internal stakeholders. Build, maintain and demonstrate excellent engineering value and performance across product engineering, DevOps, and data science to advance the business strategy.
·        Create a working feedback loop between Product Management, Product Experience, and the Engineering organization to ensure customer feedback, market data, and commercial market trends are driving the development of products and solutions.
·        Drive the development of future engineering and product operations capabilities model; create, maintain, and share the strategic transformation roadmap that enables the future business model. Establish and manage a metrics program (define, capture, report), and use it to implement improvements to development and services with an emphasis on continuous improvement.
·        Define, implement, and maintain systems architecture and technology roadmaps for product development and operations, including capacity planning and modelling to support shorter- and longer-term growth requirements.
·        Develop comprehensive operating and capital budgets in support of the newly developed roadmap and create pragmatic sub plans to articulate tradeoffs and solutions in response to cost and priority considerations.
·        Partner effectively with Operations and Delivery to ensure solutions are optimized for customer use.
 
Build, lead and retain a world-class engineering organization.
·        Evaluate the current structure and design of the wireless engineering organizations to define a future state optimized for nimble, collaborative decision-making.
·        Build and recruit a talented engineering organization with a strong presence in the appropriate development areas.
·        Be a change agent for improving processes both locally within the team and more broadly across the organization.
·        Establish positive and productive working relationships; ability and willingness to give and receive honest, balanced feedback. Demonstrate competence and character that inspire trust and team collaboration.
·        Be a strategic leader to the engineering team. Set and track KPIs and other critical success metrics concerning the team’s performance and growth.
·        Provide overall mentorship to a team of 150+ technical contributors, as well as network effectively with teams across multiple geographies.

Essential qualifications
·        10+ years of progressive software engineering leadership experience. 5+ years in a large, modern cloud enterprise software or networking company.
·        Experience in an enterprise software company where nimble and collaborative decision-making and continuous process and product improvement defined the organization.
·        Leadership and management experience of 100+ person engineering organizations in a multi-location, multi-product environment.
·        Background in leading on-prem as well as cloud development teams.
·        Excellent ability to collaborate with non-technical stakeholders (sales, marketing, and operations).
·        Proven competence in hiring and managing high-quality individual contributors and engineering managers.
·        A management style that is aligned with the philosophy and evolving culture of the Company – a style that encourages team involvement in decision-making, accountability, and pragmatism.
·        Strong track record of meeting deadlines and budgets, and shipping products using Agile methodology and processes.
·        Exceptionally strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as good interpersonal and organization skills.
 
 
 
Education
BA or BS required. Master’s or above degrees are preferred but not required.
 
Compensation
We offer a highly competitive compensation package with an attractive base salary as well as short- and long-term incentives.
 
$200,000 - $260,000 a year
