Clinical Genomic Scientist (Oakland, CA)

We are looking for an experienced Clinical Genomics Scientist to work on analysis of clinical NGS-based tests from our laboratory customers. This is a unique opportunity to work closely with a strong team of geneticists, genetic counselors, bioinformaticians, and other professionals who are shaping the future of personalized medicine. As a clinical genomic scientist you will actively participate in variant interpretation, cases analysis and clinical reporting for some of the leading genomics companies in the world, which provide a path for families and individuals to end their medical odyssey and get appropriate access to exome, genome or NGS panel tests and counseling services. You will also engage with the product development and software engineering groups to create innovative software and workflows that facilitate clinical interpretation and classification of genetic information with our product.
Up to 50% of the time performing variant interpretation (variant curation) using our cutting edge ACE variant curation software and generating clear and concise clinical reports based on these interpretations
50% of the time performing genotype-phenotype correlation in whole exome sequencing (WES) and whole genome sequencing cases using our powerful GEM software and generating clinical reports
Critically analyze and interpret clinical and genetic information, including published literature, public and private databases, functional studies and modeling, as well as patient clinical records
Develop workflows and training material for the Clinical Services group
Opportunity to work on projects to develop, curate, and refine genetic content for a broad range of genetic disorders to support our operations and clinical offerings
Achieve and maintain technical and clinical competency through initial and ongoing training in a fast paced and dynamic environment
Receive and provide case-related and performance-related feedback in a direct and supportive setting.
REQUIRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE
Knowledge of human mutation databases, cancer mutation databases, and genome browsers required
1-3 years of variant interpretation experience preferred (industry or clinical)
Previous experience in whole exome sequencing or whole genome sequencing data analysis is preferred
Demonstrated ability to understand, synthesize and coherently evaluate complex genetic information
Excellent communication, writing skills and problem solving skills required
M.Sc or PhD in human genetics, cancer biology, molecular biology, or related field OR Genetic Counselor with clinical laboratory experience OR ABMGG board-eligible molecular genetics, biochemical genetics, or cytogenetics
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time
