Topps International is hiring a Financial Controller to join our growing team. The Financial Controller will provide financial leadership by managing general accounting and financial reporting activities, ensuring accurate and timely compliance with all internal & external reporting requirements for Fanatics Collectibles – Topps International.
 
This role requires a strong people leader with a background in building teams, and fostering their collaboration, learning and growth. To be successful in this job, you must be a forward looking, proactive accounting leader with demonstrated experience succeeding in complex global businesses, working across geographies and business channels. You must have the ability to embrace ownership of various processes and reports, implementing structure. Attention to detail, superior organizational and project management skills, and exceptional communication skills are key. This is a full-time position based out of our Milton Keynes office, reporting into the Head of Finance at Topps International.

Responsibilities

    • Accountability for the financial control of the Topps International books and records, including direct responsibility for the Topps Europe business accounting alongside the consolidation of other Topps International entities
    • Managing the team to produce and close the consolidated books and records to achieve the reporting requirements of Fanatics Collectibles
    • Responsibility for the ongoing business including accounting policy, controls, financial closing and technical accounting support
    • Preparation of the Statutory Accounts and Tax packages for Topps Europe
    • Work with the finance team to provide business support to Topps International to continue to drive growth and expansion
    • Work with he Senior Accountant Treasury who will manage A/P, A/R and banking matters
    • Responsibility for the accounting of Indirect and Direct Taxes in Topps Europe
    • Lead cross-functional accounting and finance projects including systems implementations, policy development and operationalization of technical accounting and reporting matters
    • Manage and report Balance Sheet reconciliations
    • Prepare ad hoc financial reporting requests, other financial analyses and special projects requested by management
    • Assist in preparing the business to scale-up and be SOX compliant based upon process improvements, sourcing and implementing the proper technology, and placing proper talent within key roles
    • Assist with driving compliance with GAAP and implementation of new standards
    • Maintain effective relationships with organizational leaders across holding company and shared-service controllership, tax, treasury, legal, FP&A functions, and a broad group of cross-functional business teams acting as the conduit to teams on emerging business issues impacting financial reporting priorities
    • Guide other departments by researching and interpreting accounting policy; applying observations and recommendations regarding operational issues
    • Coordinate and assist with requests from Fanatics Collectibles external auditors
    • Assist with managing and developing an efficient, clean and successful audit

Skills and Experience Required

    • Bachelor (or higher) degree in accounting or finance
    • Minimum of 8-10 years' of technical accounting and/or financial reporting experience, auditing practice alongside private experience preferred.
    • Qualified Accountant ACA, ACCA, CIMA with minimum of 8 years experience.
    • Experience in acquisitions and related integration activities
    • Experience in ERP implementation projects and other efforts to increase automation in accounting closing procedures, D365 and Oracle experience of interest
    • Experience in building cross-functional relationships and partnering with senior leaders
    • Strong understanding and implementation of an internal control environment
    • Knowledge of US GAAP and ability to work between International GAAPs and US GAAP
    • Ability to think proactively and work in a highly collaborative and fast-paced environment
    • Desire to develop and continuously improve processes
    • Experience handling annual audits and working with internal and external audit functions
    • Excellent proficiency in the use of spreadsheet programs and other software applications for financial analysis, experience with ERPs (Oracle, D365) is preferred
    • Must have strong analytical skills and strong attention to detail
    • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks
    • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Fluency in English is required, with German or Italian language helpful
