Fate Therapeutics is currently seeking a motivated individual to be our Manager of Accounting & Financial Reporting, responsible for SEC reporting, technical accounting, SOX and internal audit, clinical trial accounting, equity administration, contract administration, and other key financial reporting items. This person will also be a key member in providing support for day-to-day accounting and operational activities.

Responsibilities

    • Preparing SEC filings, including Forms 10-K, 10-Q, S-3, S-8, 8-K, Section 16 reporting, and proxy, while maintaining appropriate documentation and supporting external auditors.
    • Manage SOX 404(b) control matrices and ensure compliance by the company. Assist in continuing development of internal control environment related to operations and financial reporting.
    • Oversee aspects of general ledger activities and close process (investments, clinical trial accounts, equity, leases, etc.)
    • Assist with monthly close of company financial statements; ensure that the close process is performed in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner.
    • Provide analytical support for various clinical projects including budget and financial analysis, drafting cost estimates, work statements, and financial reports.
    • Facilitate resolution of routine contract and invoicing issues within clinical trial agreements, consulting agreements, and service agreements.
    • Prepare equity compensation valuation and assumptions, utilizing a Black-Scholes Model, for expense and reporting purposes.
    • Perform accounting research, technical memo preparation, and ongoing accounting for transactions and contracts requiring a memo.
    • Responsible for monitoring and implementing accounting and disclosure rules from relevant authoritative bodies (SEC, FASB).
    • Oversee the maintenance, updating, and editing of the master list of company contracts and monitor related financial obligations to ensure compliance with agreement and proper accounting under US GAAP.
    • Lead the financial statement and SOX compliance audits. Work directly with the auditors to provide support and answer questions. Ensure auditors receive all necessary items in a timely manner for them to complete their testing within the required timeline.
    • May contribute to hiring, oversight, training, and motivating team members, ensuring that team goals are met efficiently. 

Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting or related business field required.
    • 6+ years of relevant and progressive experience in accounting at a publicly traded company, or 4+ years of public accounting experience with SEC clients. 
    • Strong understanding of US GAAP and ability to research accounting literature guidance.
    • Strong understanding of SOX in a public company environment.
    • Strong Microsoft Office skills required, including Word and Excel.
    • Microsoft Dynamics (Great Plains) experience preferred but not necessary (other general ledger software experience will be considered).
    • Active Disclosure experience preferred but not necessary (other financial reporting software experience will be considered).
    • Ability to quickly learn and master various software.
    • Ability to meet monthly and quarterly accounting deadlines.
    • Ability to work well in small team environment while assisting accounting, HR, and operations functions with ad hoc assignments.

Compensation

    • The salary offer will be based on a variety of factors, including level, experience, qualifications, internal equity, and location.
    • Fate offers a competitive employment package that includes an annual bonus, equity, and a generous benefits package.
    • The anticipated annual salary range for this role is $115,000 - $130,000.
