In this role, you will have the opportunity to develop our local design engineering practice, where as a Transportation Design Engineer, you will lead the evaluation, selection, and design of transportation system solutions for communities. You will be involved in generating conceptual designs and construction documents, collaborating with staff at all levels while conducting field work, coordinating closely with members of complete streets engineering and planning teams, engaging in discussions with clients and communities, and on-the-job training.  
 
Your main focus will be offering innovative and well-thought-out design solutions that align with client objectives and industry best practices established by NACTO and similar organizations. Additionally, you will be responsible for business development, project management, task oversight, and assigning technical staff as needed.

Responsibilities

    • Lead business development efforts, and nurture client and teaming partner relationships 
    • Lead and manage engineering and planning studies 
    • Perform field work, such as site review preceding design, and construction support 
    • Prepare accurate, feasible, and visually engaging conceptual designs 
    • Prepare PS&E for transportation engineering projects, including complete streets, bikeways, traffic signal, signing/striping, and lighting projects 
    • Manage client interactions and community engagement with members of the public 
    • Actively engage in mentoring and knowledge sharing with staff around the firm 

Qualifications

    • 5 to 15 years of experience in transportation engineering 
    • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in transportation, civil, or electrical engineering 
    • Florida Professional Engineer’s (PE) license or ability to obtain within 6-months of employment 
    • Proven track record of business development through leading proposal efforts and cultivating strong client relationships that lead to repeat work  
    • Proficiency in applying FDOT, MUTCD, and AASHTO design standards 
    • Experience with preparing and reviewing signing, striping, traffic signal and lighting plans 
    • Familiarity with safety countermeasure selection and design 
    • Familiarity with mobility issues and how they affect transportation engineering 
    • Strong communication skills and a passion for listening and engaging with diverse communities  
    • Interest and experience with mentoring and training staff 

Additional Desired Qualifications

    • Road Safety Professional (RSP) certification
    • IMSA Level I/II and PTOE certifications
    • ITS/TSMO experience
    • Quick-build project design and implementation
    • Active transportation planning and design
    • Road safety planning and design
$85,000 - $150,000 a year
The salary range for this position is $85,000-$150,000 per year. Placement within the stated pay range will be determined based upon education, experience, and qualifications.
