This position plays a key role in mixing of 30+ Microphones and show playback for touring arena show. 10 Channels of wireless IEM + Side fill Mons. RF coordination and com tech.
Operates digital mixing console to control output of voices, music, and pre-recorded sounds during circus performances and rehearsals in touring arena environments with cast of 20 performers across 10 separate wireless IEM mixes. Work with wireless microphones, in-ear monitor, wireless com, and wired com systems of large format touring arena show. Manage and maintain the shows wired and wireless communication systems. Trigger pre-recorded playback cues and balance them with live sound elements of show.
Assists in directing local crews, loading and unloading, and assembling and disassembling all show equipment, and conducts regular maintenance in an effort to preserve the high integrity and professionalism of the company and its equipment.
Continually seeks to improve the efficiency and quality of the show and work as a collaborative team member on a multi-person touring sound team.
Essential Functions
- Provide consistent and balanced sounding during a live performance experience to all audience locations. Work with touring Performance Director regarding sound notes during the performance and production meetings.
- Work directly with performers to optimize their performance monitor needs.
- Support sound system load-in and load-out with other sound team members. Maintain on-site FOH and Monitor system stability and provides related support to other sound team members for rehearsals and all performances.
- Control and troubleshoot Yamaha DM7 console. Must be familiar with large format live mixing for both large format PA systems and IEM mic mixing of lavalier, handheld, and wireless systems.
- Communicate with show support on all documentation related to equipment on assigned projects. This includes signal flow diagrams, network schedules, cue sheets, and script updates. Cross train monitor mix responsibilities to substitute sound team members.
- Execute Qlab playback during performance and be able to troubleshoot digital playback connectivity.
- Coordinate RF needs for 30+ wireless transmitters and receivers in the Shure Axient universe
- Maintain and troubleshot all wireless antenna systems for wireless systems.
- Control and troubleshoot In-Ear monitor hardware including custom in-ear molds and com headsets. Must be familiar with large format wireless and wired com systems like RTS Odin.
- Responsible for accepting all other duties assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Technical Theater and/or Live Audio Arts program or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of practical live FOH & Monitor Mixing experience on large format consoles for complex touring athletic theatrical productions. Experience should include a variety of production types, styles, and events and in a variety of arenas, venues, and environments utilizing various sound system types and configurations.
- 5+ years of practical live A2/ RF tech experience on large format touring theatrical productions. Must be well versed in large format high channel count professional wireless sound systems.
- 5+ years of large venue touring experience. Should be very well versed with large RF environments including frequency coordination and optimization for wireless microphones, in-ear monitors, and wireless coms.
- Must be able to travel domestically and internationally.
Skills & Abilities
- Must be familiar with touring entertainment electrical, pro-audio equipment, and sound system design types and their appropriate applications.
- Ability to specify theatrical vocal mixing techniques and solutions that meets the creative needs of Show and Producers.
- Ability to read schematics, signal flow charts, and block diagrams is required.
- Thorough understanding of how sound propagates in defined physical spaces.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite products; Proficiency with QLAB, Yamaha digital consoles (DM7 specifically), SMAART, Shure WWB & the Axient eco system, and pro sound manufacturer software platforms.
- Ability to develop collaborative relationships within a diverse work environment is required.
- The individual must be a self-starter and able to work well alone or with small to large groups of people and supervise and guide them when necessary.
