Working as part of a team of dedicated professionals, the Assistant Performance Director is charged with supporting the Creative Team & Performance Director in watching and sharing notes for all performances and rehearsals whether before or after opening, maintaining the prompt book, maintaining the structure of the performance for show quality, and assisting in making changes in the performance and performance related events in conjunction with the Performance Director, when necessary, considering the immediate needs of the show. 

Essential Functions

    • Responsible for maintaining a consistently high level of production and performance quality. 
    • Responsible for communicating all technical and artistic issues to the Performance Director and Production Stage Manager in a productive way to enhance the quality of each performance as it relates to the original intent of the production from the Producers.
    • Responsible for making all backstage calls, including but not limited to, pre-show and intermission in conjunction with performance Director and Production Stage Manager.
    • Partners with the Production Stage Manager and Performance Director to coordinate and conduct production meetings, as needed, for the purpose of ensuring the overall quality presentation of the Show. 
    • Assists Performance Director and Production Stage Manager with daily schedule, as well as coordinating transportation schedules between departments.
    • Responsible for maintaining any pre/post-show events.
    • Partners with the Performance Director for the purpose of organizing and planning weekly schedules which includes but is not limited to: rehearsal/training planning, PR needs, performer staffing for shows and development needs for cast.
    • Ability to role model a positive management style that adheres to Feld Entertainment’s policies, procedures, and guidelines; and promotes respectful resolution to tour related challenges & conflict. Ability to clearly express Show and Company expectations and enforce rules, regulations and guidelines set forth by “Feld Entertainment” 
    • Responsible for assisting Director, Choreographer, members of the Creative Team and Performance Director during rehearsals, as well as maintaining communication with Manager and Production Coordinator to effectively coordinate the rehearsal period. Responsible for documentation and filing of information (tracking, staging, cues, plan Bs,videos etc) during rehearsals and operations.
    • Supports and aides in succession planning for the advancement of prospective internal leadership candidates.
    • All other job-related duties as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree or minimum five years related experience or equivalent combination of training, education and/or experience in the field of circus as it relates to creative, technical, and touring.
    • Must have a valid Passport.
    • Willing and able to travel internationally and domestically 100% of the time.
    • A full and comprehensive understanding of the functions and operations of a large-scale arena show, technical elements, automation, and performers.

Skills & Abilities

    • Ability to read, write, and prepare a production blocking book, prompt books, correspondence.
    • Ability to demonstrate choreography, to teach the blocking, staging and follow through with Character development.
    • Strong understanding of cueing, cueing with automation, and contingency adaptive cueing.
    • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
    • Strong interpersonal skills
    • Ability to speak Spanish, a plus.

International Touring Personnel
