We’re looking for native English speakers based in the U.S. who are interested in independent, flexible gig work transcribing audio recordings of legal proceedings. As a transcriber, you’ll have the unique opportunity to listen to and learn from real legal cases and investigations.
Responsibilities
- Accurate Transcription: Listen to audio recordings of legal proceedings and transcribe them verbatim, capturing all spoken content with precision and clarity.
- Confidentiality Maintenance: Adhere strictly to confidentiality guidelines, ensuring sensitive and proprietary information from legal cases remains secure.
- Software Utilization: Use proprietary transcription software to complete tasks efficiently, following provided guidelines for setup and operation.
- Quality Assurance: Apply strong grammar, punctuation, and spelling skills to produce error-free transcripts that meet high standards of accuracy.
- Time Management: Independently manage workload and schedule, choosing transcription gigs that align with personal availability while meeting weekly deadlines.
- Legal Terminology Application: Incorporate or learn basic legal terminology and abbreviations to ensure accurate representation of case-specific language.
- Professional Discretion: Exercise maturity and professionalism when handling sensitive or confidential material related to legal investigations and proceedings.
Qualifications
- Strong attention to detail
- Native English speaker residing in the United States
- A computer with access to reliable internet/WiFi
- Familiarity with (or willingness to learn) basic legal terminology and abbreviations
- Prior transcription experience is helpful, but not required
- Attentive listening skills
- A strong command of grammar and punctuation
- Speed and accuracy in typing
- The ability to capture proceedings verbatim as you hear them
This is gig-based, independent work — you decide when and how much you want to work. Transcribers are paid weekly via Stripe.
Because these legal proceedings are confidential and may involve sensitive material, maturity and discretion are essential.
