JOB DESCRIPTION
Fleetzero is redefining shipbuilding from our Houston, TX headquarters, engineering next-generation vessels that lead the industry in performance and efficiency. We’re seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to spearhead the development of critical PCB and circuitry designs for propulsion systems in autonomous, electric, and hybrid vessels. In this hands-on role, you’ll drive the full lifecycle of safety-critical components, from concept to field deployment, in harsh marine environments. You’ll lead with technical expertise, take ownership of complex projects, and collaborate with a team of driven engineers to deliver innovative solutions.
Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end design of PCBs and circuitry for vessel propulsion systems, overseeing requirements gathering, schematic design, component selection, layout supervision, bring-up, testing, debugging, and system integration.
- Develop and refine system interconnect diagrams and wire harness designs, ensuring robust connectivity for marine propulsion subsystems.
- Design high-precision, noise-immune analog front-end circuits for critical applications.
- Conduct and lead peer-level and cross-disciplinary design reviews, ensuring technical excellence and alignment with project goals.
- Drive low-level firmware development for board bring-up, testing, and system validation.
- Mentor engineers and provide technical guidance to elevate team performance.
- Collaborate with firmware, mechanical, and marine engineering teams to integrate cutting-edge systems.
- Take initiative to solve complex technical challenges, ensuring reliability and performance in demanding marine conditions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- 7+ years of electrical engineering experience, with a strong track record in PCB design and circuitry for safety-critical or high-reliability applications (marine, automotive, or aerospace preferred).
- Advanced proficiency in electronic CAD tools (e.g., Altium) for schematic capture and PCB layout.
- Deep knowledge of signal integrity, power integrity, and electromagnetic compatibility in circuit design.
- Expertise in modern analog and digital electronics, including high-precision analog front-end circuits.
- Strong familiarity with standard interfaces (Ethernet, CAN, I2C, SPI, PCIe, USB) and MCU/CPU/FPGA technologies.
- Proficiency in low-level firmware development for board bring-up and testing.
- Extensive experience with rapid prototyping, iterative testing, and design validation in challenging environments.
- Strong first-principles understanding of physics for problem-solving in electronics and system design.
- Proven ability to lead complex projects, coordinate cross-functional efforts, and drive technical outcomes.
- Exceptional collaboration and communication skills to work with diverse engineering teams.
- Comfort taking independent initiative in high-stakes, fast-paced settings while fostering teamwork.
- Experience with data acquisition, analysis, and project coordination for rigorous testing.
Bonus Qualifications
- Experience with high-voltage power conversion systems (inverters, DC-DC converters, motor controllers)
- Ability to build first-article physical prototypes by hand
- Shop floor fluency with circuitry (soldering, reflow, ovens, pick and place, wiring, etc.)
- Experience with relevant vendors
$145,000 - $225,000 a year
