JOB DESCRIPTION

In this team, you will develop electric marine propulsion and power distribution systems in autonomous, electric, and hybrid vessels. You will integrate with battery and autonomy teams to power new and existing vessels with all-electric and hybrid power trains.

This is a hands-on role developing critical components for safety-critical applications in harsh environments. You will be expected to be comfortable taking independent initiative and working as a team with other highly motivated engineers.

Responsibilities

    • Design and develop electrical systems for marine power applications, from concept to implementation.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate electrical systems into ship designs, ensuring reliability and regulatory compliance.
    • Solve complex technical challenges in power distribution, energy storage, and control systems for maritime environments.
    • Conduct fieldwork, testing, and occasional travel to support project execution and system validation.

Qualifications

    • At least 4 years in electrical engineering and design, specific to ship power systems
    • Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or both
    • Licensure: Professional Engineering (PE) License in a relevant discipline is preferred. 
    • Candidates eligible to pursue PE licensure within their first year are welcome to apply
    • Technical Skills: Proficient in CAD tools like SolidWorks (preferred), AutoCAD, or Rhino3D
    • Soft Skills: Strong communicator with high proficiency in technical writing.  Able to interface and communicate effectively with key customer stakeholders and marine regulators
    • Travel & Fieldwork: Willingness to travel and perform fieldwork as needed. Some projects may require a valid driver’s license, passport, and/or TWIC card. You must be eligible for a TWIC card.
    • Working knowledge and experience adhering to USCG and IACS Class Society rules (i.e., ABS, DNV, GL, etc.)

Bonus Qualifications

    • Experience with marine ESS systems
    • Any time at sea, in a shipyard, or on a factory floor where marine equipment is manufactured
    • Shop floor fluency
$135,000 - $155,000 a year
The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors, inclusive of base salary only. Actual salary offer may vary based on (but not limited to) work experience, education and/or training, critical skills, and/or business considerations. Highly competitive equity grants are included in most full time offers and are considered part of Fleetzero's total compensation package.
