About the Role
The Design Manager, in close collaboration with the Architectural Design Director, defines and oversees the product implementation strategy. This role assists the Director in setting the ideal criteria for the Design Team by guiding design processes, developing standards, establishing best practice documents, implementing communication pathways and aligning project pipeline and staffing to leadership’s priorities.
Responsibilities
- Product Development & Strategic Analysis - assist the Design Director in analyzing existing design and operational structures to identify strengths and areas for improvement. Create lessons learned documents that capture the Do’s and Dont’s within the product evolution and implementation. With time this will fold into the Product Standards.
- Design Ethos and Alignment - maintain and reinforce the design ethos to ensure alignment with company goals and creative vision.
- Design Tools and Templates - align product output from the Design Team by crafting standard templates, design packages, playbooks and post-mortem documents to ensure product consistency within our team.
- Technology integration into the Design Process - assist with the constant maintenance and improvement of our BIM structure, by identifying areas of improvements, potential families needed. Bring the AI knowledge and exploration into the design process as well!
- FF&E Development- partner with the Concept team to create furniture catalogs, finishes trackers, accessories libraries & vetted vendors tracker as resources for our design team.
- Project Oversight - manage multiple projects from start to finish, guaranteeing timely delivery within budget and adherence to brand standards. Collaborate on resource allocation, schedule management, and risk mitigation.
- Building opening experience - assist in the ideation of the Move-in-Package that will help facility managers and logistics’ team to stage furniture and accessories as styled by the design team during opening day. This includes a Master Schedule that lists the items purchased and the vendors contact in case the building teams need to replace an asset. This document will act as the North Star for Design for the Facility Manager, Ops and Sales teams.
Ideal Background
- Strong Architecture / Interior Design background.
- 10+ years of experience in the commercial / RE development / hospitality fields. Having experience working as an owner's rep or developer is a plus.
- Strategic thinking, problem solver and used to a fast paced environment, with shifting priorities.
- Team player with ‘coach / player mentality’.
- Highly collaborative individual with experience mentoring younger designers and eager to share the knowledge and help build the systems to enhance the product and efficiencies.
- Willing to take a hands-on approach when necessary, while also possessing the ability to take a strategic view and effectively manage multiple projects at various stages simultaneously.
- Creative individual, tech savvy - merging design with technology is a super plus!
- Impeccable communication skills and comfortable leading conversations with various cross-functional stakeholders at different levels.
