What does a Battery Design Thermal Engineer do at Fluence?
- Assist the engineering lead in developing 3D CAD models of battery component and energy storage systems from concept to creation. Components include structural, electrical, and thermal components
- Apply design for manufacturing and design for assembly knowledge into system design
- Lead and develop 2D component drawings to be shared with suppliers and manufacturing
- Lead and perform tolerancing stack up analysis to ensure smooth component integration
- Analyze and execute design changes as a result of tolerance stack ups
- Document and maintain component specifications such as material and mass
- Support component design reviews and analysis
- Identify cost and performance optimization areas in component design
- Collaborate with global engineering and design team members to ensure timely and accurate completion of tasks
What does the ideal candidate look like?
- 3+ years in design/engineering in battery pack components or subsystems
- Proficient in PTC Creo and Windchill data management software
- Demonstrated ability in creating world-class component design
- Understanding of component manufacturing processes including stamping, die casting, injection molding, and machining and impacts to component design
- Understanding of design for high volume assembly and manufacturing
- Proficient in ASME Y14.5-2018 GD&T with the ability to perform dimensional stack ups independently
- Ability to work independently with little guidance from team members
- Preferred experience: high voltage battery module design
