ABOUT THE POSITION: 

The BESS PM Field Service Technician (FST) under general direction of the PM Lead and the PM Manager, performs all aspects of service operations, maintenance, and support for Battery Energy Storage Systems.  The PM Field Service Technician will assist the PML/PMM with site reports, and other written and verbal communications between the site and the Management Team, customers, vendors, etc. 

As the BESS PM Field Service Technician, you will: 

•Be responsible for site safety by utilizing best practices, building on established Fluence safety culture, and utilizing Fluence safety management systems.  Utilize stop-work authority when warranted.  Alert project team members immediately of issues and concerns. 

•Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on various BESS equipment and related assets (including but not limited to SCADA communications, Inverters, MV (Medium Voltage) & HV operations, HVAC, substations switching & inspections, etc.). 

•Aid in inspection, testing, and repair of utility-scale power and controls equipment, execute various technical tasks, processes, and procedures, such as: interpret single-line drawings and schematics, troubleshoot BESS installations and configurations, perform electrical testing, troubleshoot control wiring and I/O racks, configure TCP/IP and Modbus protocols, etc. 

•Support the PML/PMM in managing multiple 3rd party service vendors in the safe execution of O&M services across contracted BESS projects.  

•Assists the PML/PMM with creating/reviewing/approving/executing Work Orders, accurate inventory management, data collection and summary reports. 

•Hold responsibility for meeting timelines and schedules, scopes of work, quality assurances and inspections, successful troubleshooting and repairs, and work orders completion. 

•Maintain open lines of communication to supervisors, engineers, and managers by effective use of MS Teams, emails, and other communication tools.   

•All other job-related duties as assigned. 


What will our ideal candidate bring to Fluence? 

HS Degree and 2-4 years’ experience working in the electrical or renewable energy industries within generation / operations / technical teams (solar/wind/BESS/gas/hydro/distribution). 

Demonstrated problem-solving skills related to electrical troubleshooting, read, and interpret schematic drawings, ability to follow company QC and testing procedures. 

High level of attention to detail and focus on proper documentation. 

Preferred experience with:  

Bidirectional inverters, 1500VDC and 690 VAC systems, extra for substations. 

Using electrical testing equipment, including meggers and multimeters. 

Managed Ethernet Switches, Media Converters (Fiber & Serial).  

HVAC & Chiller systems operations & maintenance.  

Using Torque tools and Thermal Imaging tools to maintain/verify proper electrical connections. 

Other Requirements: 

Ability to adapt and work in extreme hot and cold environments, manage time and tasks effectively with a sense of urgency, and work overtime/weekends as needed. 

Either currently hold, or able to immediately obtain certifications for OSHA 10, NFPA 70E, and CPR 

Must be willing to travel frequently up to 3 weeks 

Able to operate company vehicles both on site as well as on public roads and highways.  Must have a current driver’s license with a good DMV record. 

Requires ability to physically bend, stoop, sit, stand, walk, reach, climb ladders/steps, and lift at least 50 lbs
