Flynn Canada Ltd. is currently recruiting skilled Roofers Apprentices (commercial) to fill 3 F/T vacancies in Dartmouth and surrounding area (25 Neptune Crescent, Dartmouth, NS B2Y 4P9). Other locations across Nova Scotia will be required based on awarded projects.

The position of “Roofer Apprentice” is a skilled labour role, in which the Roofer apprentice works within a team, reporting to the site foreman to lay a variety of roofs on industrial, institutional, and commercial buildings.

Responsibilities include:

Install, repair, maintain and replace single ply roofing systems using materials such as asphalt saturated felts and hot asphalt and gravel

• Install, repair, maintain and replace Modified Bitumen (Mod-Bit) roofing,

• Install, repair maintain and replace single ply roofing systems, using waterproof sheet materials such as modified plastics or asphalt compositions.

• Ensure roof membrane is protected from weather conditions such as rain and snow.

• Remove foreign debris from roof to create a safe place to work.

• Use of hand tools and power tools for installation

• Repair, maintain and replacement of all roofing systems.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 1-2 years of roofing (commercial) experience

• Intermediate English or French skills;

• This is a unionized position; if hired, all candidates will be required to become a member (if not already)

Skills and Knowledge:

-Ability to work and communicate with others

-Ability to install all kinds of buildup roofing systems (including trusses)

-Ability to work at heights

-Ability to learn and obey our extensive company safety policy

Terms of Employment:

• Permanent full time at 30-40 hours a week. Overtime after 10 hours a day, on weekends, and on holidays., paid at time and a half;

• $23.02 - $29.00 per hour, depending on qualifications (starting wage for meeting minimum requirements is $23.02, wage scale increases based on additional experience and conditions outlined in collective bargaining agreement);

• Benefits package offered by Union.

• Remuneration of 5% vacation on all earnings, 4% stat holiday pay on all earnings except for vacation pay.
