About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Software Engineering Team Lead to join Flywheel’s busy and collaborative development team. This is a unique opportunity to work with and lead a dedicated product team, building a large scale application for sharing and curating scientific and medical data and associated metadata. Tools that your team builds will be used by scientists and researchers to enhance their workflow efficiency and sharing capabilities. Successful applicants will have a passion for problem-solving, elevating others around them, and delivering quality results. This role requires leadership experience and a strong development background.
The team works with a variety of technologies, including:
Python 3 APIs, specifically FastAPI
Angular, Typescript
Cloud providers: AWS, Google, and Azure
MongoDB, ElasticSearch
Docker and Kubernetes
Git, Unit and Integration testing, CI/CD a plus, specifically GitLab
Environment
This role works closely with a cross functional product team and business stakeholders. The team operates within an Agile process and is empowered to alter it as needed to achieve team and company objectives.

Responsibilities
- Lead a cross functional team focused around a product area.
- Directly manage software engineers on the team providing continuous feedback.
- Develop with a variety of technologies, such as Python, Typescript (Angular), Docker, Kubernetes.
- Work closely with product owners to develop product features and improvements.
- Be accountable for team delivery, performance, and culture.
- Collaborate daily across a geographically dispersed development team.
- Build up the team by mentoring other engineers, sharing knowledge, and raising the bar.
- Keep a constant feedback loop open with all members of the team as well as starting conversations about career growth.
- Help grow the team by participating in hiring and onboarding.

- Strong application development skills.
- Direct experience building APIs, SDKs and/or CLIs.
- Experience building applications that handle large file transfers and interact with cloud storage services like GCS, S3, etc.
- Feel passionate about writing quality code.
- Plan with an eye towards details and edge cases.
- Thrive in a collaborative and dynamic environment.
- Have a habit of documentation to share your knowledge and learn from past mistakes.
- Driven by curiosity and creative problem solving. Have an urge for delivering to deadlines and iterating fast.
