Zipline is looking for a lead controls engineer to develop algorithms and software for robust fault-tolerant precision control of autonomous aircraft and ground robotics equipment.

Must have legal status to work in the US.

Example Projects Include

    • Modeling, simulation, and control design of unconventional aircraft configurations
    • Precise trajectory tracking in high wind conditions
    • Precise target drop in high wind conditions
    • Aggressive maneuvering
    • Fault tolerant control
    • Detection and response to aircraft failure modes
    • Fusion of airborne and ground-based sensors for aircraft state estimation
    • System identification of aircraft dynamics and ground robotics
    • Automated control system optimization
    • Automated control system verification and performance evaluation

Minimum required experience and education

    • MS or PhD specializing in Controls
    • Control system design, implementation, and test
    • Estimation, sensor fusion, Kalman filter design
    • Modern and classical control methods
    • Modeling and simulation
    • Matlab, Simulink, C, C++

Strongly valued experience

    • Driving a product to commercial-level safety and reliability
    • Aircraft experience is a plus but optional with demonstrated ability to apply control theory to any physical system 
    • Hardware-in-the-loop simulation and test
    • Strong leadership traits
