For Our Future recognizes a staff bargaining unit, affiliated with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) 2304, a labor union. This position is NOT included in the For Our Future bargaining unit. 

About the Role
For Our Future is looking for an organized and motivated Bookkeeper/Budget Associate who will be responsible for recording financial transactions and adjustments, maintaining accounts payable files, track disbursements and other general financial support related to the organization's budget. This role involves working closely with the operations team, compliance team and various directors to ensure FOF meets its deadlines for all essential budget documentation and processes. We are looking for a team member with good communication skills, detailed oriented, comfortable with google sheets and daily software usage.

Essential Functions

    • Perform account receivable functions, which includes invoicing, deposits, and revenue recognition.
    • Perform activities related to accounts payable, which includes reviewing, coding/scoring, and processing payments.
    • Collaborate with Human Resources to timely and accurately record biweekly payroll. 
    • Maintain accurate records of all financial transactions affecting the Organization. 
    • Conduct reconciliation of all accounts, as needed.
    • Interpret and apply accounting policies, rules, and regulations to all work, in order to ensure compliance with applicable standards.
    • Assist with the review of all invoices and expenditure requests for budget approval, and ensure they are accounted for with proper back-up documentation.
    • Collaborate with Operations and vendors on payment requests & verifying banking information.
    • Ensures correct W-9 Vendor set up and maintenance, reconcile vendor statements, update/maintain accounts payable master files, and research and correct discrepancies.
    • Assist Legal and accountants with tax filings, and state registrations, as needed.
    • Meet all required time schedules and deadlines.
    • Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.

Skills and Qualifications

    • At least 2-3 years of bookkeeping experience, required, preferably in a political, nonprofit or campaign environment.
    • Knowledge and understanding of GAAP. 
    • Experience with intercompany transactions.
    • Proficient in QuickBooks and/or QuickBooks Online. 
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Proficient in Google Suite or similar software.
    • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures.

The compensation for this position may be based on experience and comes with a comprehensive benefits package.

Expected Hours of Work

    • Normal hours of business are from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Eastern Time Monday thru Friday, however employees may be required to work outside of normal business hours including weekends and nights.
    • Employees are required to abide by certain blackout dates during a campaign cycle or other key deadlines, and generally not allowed to take off during blackout periods. Emergencies are not affected by this policy.

$51,000 - $56,000 a year
Work Environment
This position is based in our Washington, DC headquarters, which is currently remote and will have a remote option until further notice. Employees will therefore work and interact primarily in a virtual environment for the duration of this position, unless extended. Employees may be required to periodically travel to and/or work out of office locations in Washington, DC or at state offices.
