RRAI is looking for a Mission Support Technician based at our Maryland based locations, your mission is to consistently execute testing programs while making ongoing improvements to the test site operations. You will be responsible for the day-to-day health of operations. This includes planning and facilitating test plans for various vehicle types in partnership with our Engineering team, collecting and performing initial test data analysis for the system under test, and reporting out findings and recommendations for improvements. You work closely with Engineering to discuss test results, advocate for the customer experience, and ensure we leave no stone unturned in testing all scenarios to exhaustion. Additionally, you will periodically support execution of ground testing at private and government owned test ranges, conduct system level test & evaluation of hardware and software, safety testing, initial issue investigation, and process improvement/development. 

Position Responsibilities:

    • Support both internal and external partners. This position reports into our Robot Ops team, with a dotted-line reporting structure into our Engineering group. The testing executed by this Mission Support Technician directly supports our product development and customer experience, pushing our products to the point of exhaustion in order to safeguard the quality of end user experience. 
    • Track work in established ticketing processes. Take ownership of communicating work status, progress, blockers, by leveraging ticketing tools and processes. 
    • Plan and execute testing of hardware / software. This includes creating routes & obstacles on the property and operating a variety of vehicle types under different weather conditions / terrain. 
    • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to gain an understanding of processes, methods, and capabilities of our products. This includes executing hands on work to understand the experience of relevant audiences. 
    • Maintain accurate and concise reports of tests. Testing plans must be documented in advance of execution to align priorities and goals across stakeholders. Product and experiential issues are tracked throughout execution and escalated in live time when appropriate based on severity. 
    • Adhere to issue severity guidelines and escalation policies / procedures. Safety always comes first. We expect all teammates to comply with critical incident or near miss reporting procedures. 
    • Collect and perform initial test data analysis. Share findings out with stakeholders in a digestible way in order to enable technical, operational, and experiential improvements. 
    • Work closely with engineering to discuss test results, including collected data and observations, as well as identify opportunities for improvements in the testing process. 
    • Act as a primary teammate and point of contact on-site. Troubleshoot hardware/ software / facilities issues as needed to deliver consistent, high-quality operations. 
    • Support product demonstrations for potential partners as needed. Many of our prospective partners want to see our operations in action. This includes our investments in testing facilities. 
    • Capture raw technical documentation to support our content team in generating knowledge base resources for internal and external stakeholders. Provide feedback on content created in support of operations, including but not limited to: product specifications, operator manuals, troubleshooting guides. 
    • Commit to ongoing development, high quality work, and engaging in feedback. Approach changes and ambiguity with a positive perspective; place the overall success of the team above individual preferences. 

Required Skills and Abilities:

    • Must be able to work outside for long periods of time in different weather. 
    • Ability to perform physical, hands-on task execution in support of product troubleshooting, updating, and re-versioning. For example, procedures may require opening the front-panel of equipment to adjust wiring, swapping components, remote-connecting with Engineering groups to coordinate software updates, etc. 
    • Must be able to lift 50lb overhead. 
    • Valid US driver’s license or ability to secure one. 
    • Valid US passport or ability to secure one. 
    • Strong computer and documentation experience. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Jira, or related software. 
    • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts as well as directional feedback and apply changes quickly and accurately. 

Preferred Qualifications:

    • Previous experience as a field technician, computer technician / programmer, test technician, quality control analyst, user experience manager, advanced technical support specialist, or comparable role. 
    • Technical degree or hands-on experience with products deployed in customer locations and in various physical environments. 
    • Experience with command line Linux tools and system configuration. 
    • Understanding of communication methods such as SSH, FTP, and VPN connectivity. 
    • Experience managing and maneuvering vehicles. This role requires supporting the loading and unloading of equipment, including vehicles, as a part of site operations. 
    • Familiarity with Atlassian tools: Jira/Confluence/Crucible Electrical tools such as multi-meter and network cable testers. 

Education and Experience:

    • A bachelor's in engineering or related technical discipline. If you do not hold a bachelor's, you bring significant field experience and demonstrated abilities and/or various certifications in technical studies.
