Freedom Preparatory Academy Charter Schools (www.freedomprep.org) is a network of PreK-12 free public charter schools serving students in Memphis, TN, and Birmingham, AL. Our mission is to prepare all students in grades PreK-12 to excel in college and in life. Since our founding in 2009, we have grown from a class of 96 sixth grade students to now serving over 1950 students across multiple campuses. In 2024, we expanded into Birmingham, AL, starting with grades K-1, with plans to grow to a K-5 campus.

POSITION OVERVIEW
Freedom Prep seeks a self-motivated Talent Recruiter who is fueled by our mission to prepare all students in grades K-12 to excel in college and in life. They will be a key driver in building a robust and diverse pipeline of teacher talent through relationship building, collaboration, and effective stakeholder management. The Talent Recruiter will develop and maintain the infrastructure for recruitment, which includes a standardized application process and processing candidate workflow. The Talent Recruiter will work with other recruitment team members and implement selection process for processing qualified candidates. They will maintain close working relationships with school leaders and hiring managers to gain a greater understanding of their staffing needs. Above all, this role provides the opportunity to tangibly impact the greatest determining factor of a child’s educational success: teacher quality. Responsibilities of the Talent Recruiter will include, but are not limited to:
RESPONSIBILITIES
Outreach and Candidate Cultivation:
• Develop strategic partnerships with organizations and universities to grow broad and diverse pipelines of teacher and operation candidates
• Lead outreach efforts at local and identified universities
• Attend key recruitment events such as career fairs, conferences, panel discussions, and networking events
• Develop and execute events to host connector organizations and prospective candidates with Freedom Prep including school visits, open houses, and off-campus events
• Support the production of clear and compelling communications and marketing materials
• Support the creation of content and gather photos for Recruitment Team newsletters and social media presence
• Ensure timely and personalized follow-up to prospective candidates including email communications as well as 1:1 meetings via phone, virtually, or in-person
• Source and cultivate teaching candidates and network vacancies by using job boards, social media, referrals, LinkedIn, and other virtual options
• Travel to colleges, universities, and conferences to recruit candidates
Candidate Selection:
• Dedicate time to observing classrooms and connecting with Freedom Prep leadership and staff to develop a deep understanding of mission and organizational fit
• Schedule candidates at all stages of the recruitment process, including, but not limited to phone interviews, in-person interviews, group interviews, and school visits
• Act as a primary point of contact for candidates throughout the hiring process, ensuring all candidates have a positive experience
• Review applications, resumes, and other pertinent qualifying documents to determine applicant eligibility
• Schedule and conduct screening calls/interviews with applicants using an established teacher selection model
• Conduct thorough and timely follow-up with contacts
• Maintain close communication with high-quality candidates as they move through all parts of the selection process
• Ensure a welcoming, comprehensive, and efficient application experience for candidates
Additional Tasks:
• Cultivate relationships with Heads of Schools and other hiring managers to maintain accurate school and network openings in the network
• Manage candidate coordination and communication across schools and network team as needed/required to plan and execute logistics and travel for network interviews
QUALIFICATIONS
• A commitment to Freedom Prep and its values, an understanding of Freedom Prep’s mission, and unwavering commitment to fulfill it
• Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a recruiting position,
OR Associates Degree with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a recruiting capacity.
• Knowledge of the K-12 education environment and experience in an educational setting
• Previous experience teaching and/or working in school leadership in historically underserved K-12 schools and/or high-performing public charter schools preferred
• Strong computer skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Outstanding organizational skills and high attention to detail; outstanding written and oral communication skills with the ability to identify, prioritize, organize tasks in order to efficiently and effectively accomplish assigned and self-generated tasks
• Proactive problem solver who demonstrates initiative
• Strong work ethic coupled with an enthusiastic and passionate approach to one’s work
• Demonstrated success building, managing, and growing meaningful relationships with a diverse range of constituents in the greater Memphis community
• Effective communication skills with the ability to connect with people from a variety of different backgrounds
• A creative, resourceful, responsive style with the ability to work independently and as a team player
REPORTS TO HR Manager
$60,000 - $65,000 a year
