Company Description

At Fun.xyz, we believe a tokenized future is a beneficial inevitability, granting financial access to everyone with an internet connection. For a global economy to exist that’s built on blockchain backends, value exchange must become intuitive, secure, and seamless.

Enter Checkout – the highest converting payment solution in web3. By integrating Checkout, dApps enable users to complete any on-chain action using crypto from a wallet, centralized exchange, or on-ramped fiat from a card or bank account. With access to market-leading routing and their asset portfolio at the point of sale, users are faster, stickier, and more engaged. For dApps, Checkout scales their user acquisition potential without launching new chains or integrating multiple third party providers.

We built Checkout because we envision a world where anyone, anywhere, can purchase anything with any asset. If that sounds like a vision you can get behind, we want to hear from you.

About the Role

We’re seeking our first in-house General Counsel to own all things legal at Fun.xyz. This is a high-impact role at the intersection of crypto, payments, and regulation — perfect for someone who thrives in navigating ambiguity and unchartered waters.

As GC, you’ll be a general athlete, partnering with leadership on a wide range of matters spanning corporate governance, commercial contracts, business strategy, regulation and compliance. You will be expected to roll up your sleeves and execute, drafting agreements, evaluating new products, reviewing policies and actively advising on risk. Over time, you’ll help build a lean but high-performing legal and compliance function.

If the opportunity to shape both the legal foundation and strategic trajectory of the fastest growing payments company in crypto is exciting to you, we should connect.

What You’ll Do

    • Serve as the primary legal advisor to the executive team
    • Lead corporate legal matters including governance, financings, board support, and equity programs
    • Help draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts with partners, vendors, and enterprise clients
    • Provide direction and oversight of Fun’s crypto and payments regulatory strategy across multiple jurisdictions (US and international)
    • Oversee compliance operations, including policies, human capital resourcing, reporting frameworks, and regulator engagement
    • Partner with the engineering team on new product development, ensuring compliant go-to-market approaches and relevant risk disclosures
    • Maintain and manage a network of strong outside counsel relationships across specialty areas (regulatory, compliance, corporate, etc)

What We’re Looking For

    • 8–12+ years of legal experience, ideally having a background with a top-tier law firm and/or as in-house counsel with a high-growth technology company
    • Deep experience in crypto, fintech, and/or payments — with a firm grasp around money movement, licensing, and regulatory regimes (e.g., MSB, VASP, AML/BSA, OFAC,etc)
    • Strong foundation in corporate law & governance; exposure to fundraising/venture transactions a plus
    • Well-versed with compliance frameworks; have built out processes and managed internal/external resources
    • Proven ability to balance risk and innovation in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment
    • Hands-on operator who’s comfortable rolling up the sleeves and executing, with an eye towards scale and efficiency
    • Exceptional communication skills and ability to explain complex issues clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

What Sets You Apart

    • You’ve served as first or early legal hire at a successful fintech, payments, or crypto startup
    • You thrive in ambiguity, prioritize ruthlessly, and bring structure to fast-moving situations
    • You’re equally comfortable advising on high-level strategy and getting into the weeds of a contract redline
    • You understand the unique regulatory challenges of on-chain payments and digital assets
    • You have experience building lightweight compliance functions that scale over time
    • You are able to make important decisions under time constraints and with limited information

Why Join Us

    • Define the legal, regulatory and compliance foundation for the fastest growing payments company in crypto
    • Partner directly with founders and leadership on strategy and execution
    • Work on cutting-edge issues at the frontier of crypto and payments regulation
    • Help shape a company mission-driven to make on-chain commerce seamless, secure, and universal
    • Be part of a high-performance, no-ego culture that values grit, excellence, and execution
