Position Summary

The Director will have the opportunity to lead TLN’s efforts to support and engage effective, diverse lawmakers committed to improving people’s lives. We are looking for someone with impeccable organizational skills, a passion for program design and project management, and experience with facilitation (both in-person and virtually). This position reports to the Vice President of Lawmaker Engagement. 

The Director will manage several key programs and initiatives for lawmakers, including seminars, webinars, and cohort opportunities for leading lawmakers, as well as the development of timely and relevant resources and tools.  The Director will also be responsible for identifying and evaluating needs and ideating and implementing new programming for lawmakers. Finally, they will establish, maintain, and deepen relationships among key lawmakers, who are at the core of TLN’s work to achieve America’s Goals. 

The successful candidate will work closely with other members of the TLN team, as well as colleagues on the Political, Communications & Marketing, and Strategy & Research teams, to intentionally develop, design, and execute programs and provide targeted products and resources to meet the needs of lawmakers. They will also collaborate with the Development and Giving Circles teams to communicate about our lawmaker engagement efforts to donors and the public.  Finally, they will oversee and execute efficient and strategic day-to-day program and project management--including data tracking and analysis, event planning, creation of materials, recruitment, follow-up engagement, program evaluation, and internal and external communication.

    • Lawmaker Engagement and TLN Network Building
    • Manage relationships with lawmakers and legislative staff in a portfolio of chambers to advance America’s Goals
    • Market TLN’s programs and products to key lawmakers, leaders, and caucuses in ways that authentically reflect their needs and help to sustain meaningful, long-term relationships
    • Partner with the Strategy Team to provide input on and inform the development of new policies for the America’s Goals policy library
    • Provide lawmakers with research and information including with research and information including on best practices from other state, policy ideas and impacts, and messaging
    • Manage responses to lawmaker research requests and proactively share new policies, research, polling, and other information with interested lawmakers
    • Build TLN’s brand as the go-to resource for state lawmakers for model policies, data, research, messaging, and strategy

    • Outreach and Marketing
    • Forge and maintain strong relationships with lawmakers and legislative staff to increase their affinity/engagement with TLN
    • Collaborate with the Director, Lawmaker Engagement and Regional Political Directors  to identify and leverage opportunities for lawmakers
    • Identify, recruit, and secure lawmaker participation in TLN programs

    • Program and Product Design and Execution 
    • Develop, update and maintain public-facing information and materials about TLN programs, products, and resources
    • Design and deliver TLN’s programs, products, and resources including including to key lawmakers, leaders, and caucuses in ways that increase their effectiveness and establish meaningful, long-term relationships
    • Review and provide oversight on project plans for all lawmaker programs, products, and resources
    • Design/oversee content development and execution of lawmaker programming, both virtual and in-person
    • Oversee and develop rapid response resources for lawmakers on key issues related to America’s Goals

    • Program Assessment and Development
    • Implement and analyze feedback to ensure TLN products and services are relevant and responsive to diverse lawmaker needs and help lawmakers advance America’s Goals
    • Refine existing programs, products, and resources to provide timely, responsive, and compelling content to lawmakers
    • Design and launch new programs, products, and resources responsive to the needs of lawmakers

    • Team and Organizational Leadership
    • May be asked to provide insights and updates for donor-facing materials, join calls with key supporters, and represent TLN externally 
    • Provide input into OKRs and long term strategic vision for TLN priorities
    • Demonstrate organizational leadership and participation by serving on and/or leading internal committees as requested (e.g. CareComm, DEIB Committee, Retreat Planning Committee etc.)

    • Desired Qualifications
    • Relevant knowledge of state lawmakers, state-level policy and/or the public sector or prior experience working on a campaign or in state government
    • Significant program and instructional design and/or events experience
    • Experience overseeing and/or supporting cohort-based programs
The position offers a competitive benefits package, including 75% paid coverage of medical, dental, and vision for individuals and families, unlimited PTO, 401(k) matching, an annual professional development stipend, and paid family leave. The salary for this position is $130,000 per year.

Position Details
This is a full-time, exempt position. The team currently operates remotely, with occasional in-person team retreats, etc. Some travel will be required. Additional evening and weekend hours are occasionally required to fulfill the duties of this position.
