At Gatik we’re developing Level 4 automated light trucks and vans for business to business (B2B) short-haul logistics. Our autonomous vehicles reduce the high cost of urban logistics, while improving safety, increasing efficiency, reducing congestion and emissions, and allowing businesses to best serve the community.

Led by a team of AV researchers and engineers from Carnegie Mellon University, we are building new concepts and groundbreaking solutions for autonomous vehicles to ensure goods are transported between business locations both efficiently and affordably in city environments. With offices in Palo Alto and Toronto, we are dedicated to building commercial applications of AVs and aim to power the next generation of self-driving commercial fleets for urban logistics.

    • Promote safety culture inside Gatik
    • Provide guidance on the adoption and adaptation of relevant safety standards, and industry best practices, and help ensure Gatik is complying with relevant safety regulations
    • Define and measure metrics for safe operation
    • Work cross-functionally with the software, hardware, technical program management, and operations to define and implement safety policies
    • Serve as technical expert and policy advisor to the leadership team on safety issues
    • Organize, drive, and facilitate FMEA process cross-functionally across the engineering team
    • Address risks through proactive hazard identification and mitigation
    • Provide oversight of design and test methods to assure compliance with applicable operations/fleet-related internal safety policy, industry standards, regulation, performance metrics and thresholds
    • Generate well defined test procedures, test cases, and test plans for operations team


    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical degree
    • 5+ years of automotive or relevant safety-industry experience
    • Experience in AV functional safety and SOTIF approaches & related V&V methodology, or related fields (aviation, robotics, automotive, etc)
    • Experience with FMVSS, SAE, ISO, and other regulatory and technical standards, including ISO 26262, 21448, 9001 or the IEC 61508 standards
    • Experience with safe software standards and compliance 
    • Experience with formal software validation and verification methods, to include unit and regressions tests
    • Experience driving code reviews and supporting formal functional safety analysis for safety-critical software
    • Experience in a safety-focused position dealing with highly complex technical systems
    • Extensive experience partnering with or working within one safety-focused government agency (NTSB, DOT etc)

Bonus Points

    • Experience reviewing or authoring safety requirements; technical writing proficiency
    • Experience in Assisted Driving (ADAS) and/or Automated Driving experience
    • Hands-on experience working on an engineering program that delivered a product to market
    • Experience balancing business needs with protecting organizational safety standards
