As the Director of Synthetic Biology, you will be a key member of Geltor’s leadership team and your skills and expertise will guide the team that designs and builds the microbes that produce superior protein-based materials.

What you'll do:

    • Advise and support the Chief Technology Officer in overseeing the development of new designer proteins and microbial engineering projects
    • Design new proteins
    • Develop novel non-model microbes into production hosts
    • Collaborate with the fermentation and downstream teams to optimize production hosts
    • Maintain a system for regular documentation of ideas and results including keeping up-to-date lab notebook recordings documenting results and ideas for improvements
    • Be up to date on relevant scientific literature
    • Statistical analysis of complex data sets
    • Working with CROs for sequencing, DNA synthesis, and small-scale fermentations
    • Teach and mentor junior employees

What we're looking for:

    • Ph.D. in molecular biology, cancer biology or genetics or related discipline
    • 5-10 years of experience working in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry
    • Experience managing 3+ scientists
    • Proven track record of applying innovative genetic, molecular and cell biological techniques to the discovery and development of industrially relevant targets
    • Be an effective communicator, highly motivated, organized, and team-oriented
    • Ability to work effectively in a highly-collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment, and manage multiple tasks and responsibilities 
    • Plus: Experience in metabolic engineering
    • Plus: Experience working with multiple microbial hosts
    • Plus: Experience drafting patents
    • Plus: Experience with automating workflows
