Currently, more than 1800 students are learning at GESS supported by more than 400 full time and part time academic and administrative staff members. In August 2018 GESS moved to Dairy Farm Road to a modern new school campus located at the edge of Singapore’s largest nature reserve.

Academic Coaching is an essential part of our comprehensive learning support concept at the German Section. Academic coaches support the student in many ways, including filling in the gaps that exist in the learning process, helping the student build self-confidence, promoting interaction and ensuring the student stays focused in the classroom. The academic coach helps the student being prepared and organized for class, enabling the student with the approaches for optimum learning.
You will support one (1) student with learning challenges like an autism spectrum disorder, with learning needs or with an impairment of motor skills. This could also include support of students with learning needs in the area of German language. The support takes place within the class (integrative) or outside the class (additive). In general, the following tasks are involved.

Die Schulbegleitung ist ein wesentlicher Bestandteil unseres umfassenden Foerderkonzepts an der deutschen Sektion unserer Schule. Schulbegleitungen unterstützen den Schüler/ die Schülerin in vielerlei Hinsicht, einschließlich beim Füllen von Lernlücken, beim Aufbau von Selbstvertrauen, der Förderung von Interaktion und der Sicherstellung der norwendigen Konzentration im Klassenzimmer. Die Schulbegleitung hilft dem Schüler/ der Schülerin, den Unterricht vorzubereiten, sich zu organisieren und ermöglicht Ansätze für ein optimales Lernen. 
Sie unterstützen eine/n (1) Schülerin/ Schüler bei Lernherausforderungen wie einer Autismus-Spektrum-Störung, bei Lernbedürfnissen oder bei einer Beeinträchtigung der motorischen Fähigkeiten. Dies könnte auch die Unterstützung von Studierenden mit Lernbedürfnissen im Bereich der deutschen Sprache umfassen. Die Unterstützung findet innerhalb der Klasse (integrativ) oder außerhalb der Klasse (additiv) statt. Im Allgemeinen handelt es sich um die folgenden Aufgaben.


Responsibilities:

    • Support in general learning structures (understanding, mastering and controlling tasks, etc.)
    • Support in working behavior (also attention/concentration, motivation) and social behavior; also support and strengthening of emotional well-being
    • Support in various subjects (especially German, English. Mathematics, Science) under the guidance of a teacher
    • If necessary, support in mobility, perception and language/communication
    • If necessary, accompaniment and support of the learner during class excursions, project weeks, bonding days and other school events
    • Assumption of organizational tasks and provision of materials
    • Participating in meetings with teachers, learning support teachers, parents if required

Aufgaben:

    • Unterstützung bei allgemeinen Lernstrukturen (Verstehen, Bearbeiten und Kontrollieren von Aufgaben, etc.)
    • Unterstützung im Arbeitsverhalten (auch Aufmerksamkeit/Konzentration, Motivation) und Sozialverhalten; auch Unterstützung und Stärkung des emotionalen Wohlbefindens
    • Unterstützung in verschiedenen Fächern (insbesondere Deutsch, Englisch. Mathematik, Naturwissenschaften) unter Anleitung des Fachlehrers
    • ggf. Unterstützung bei Mobilität, Wahrnehmung und Sprache/Kommunikation
    • ggf. Begleitung und Unterstützung bei Klassenfahrten, Projektwochen, Bonding-Tagen und anderen schulischen Veranstaltungen
    • Übernahme organisatorischer Aufgaben und Bereitstellung von Materialien
    • Teilnahme an Treffen mit Lehrkräften, Förderlehrkräften und Eltern bei Bedarf

Requirements:

    • Fluent spoken and written German, as you will need to support German speaking students that are attending our German speaking classes
    • Excellent communication skills
    • IT competencies
    • Relevant University degree and/or experience in an educational setting
    • Knowledge of and/or experience working with students with barriers to learning
    • Open mind, flexiblity and teamplay
    • Eagerness to learn and innovate, seeking and implementing best practices

Our School
