Who You Are:

You are an aspiring professional passionate about visual sport storytelling through photography. You are looking to grow your audience and reach 35,000+ media customers globally with your work. You are interested in working with some of the most recognized sports photographers in the industry and want to pursue a career in the field.

We are searching for an emerging sports photographer who demonstrates a willingness to progress in their craft and the ability to capture the athletic world through their unique perspective.

This opportunity is a paid internship taking place from May through February in New York City and the surrounding area.

Your Next Challenge:
 
We are offering a nine-month long opportunity to become a member of Getty Images’ editorial sport team and to train on all facets of the editorial imagery business, including but not limited to:

• Capturing editorial content (photography and videography) from various assignments including baseball, football, basketball, hockey, and more. 
• Scheduling events and meeting client needs 
• Field photo editing 
• Editorial video workflow and technique   
• Major event production and technology 
• Solo assignments as well as group assignments with editing support 

You will join a team of highly collaborative and talented photographers, videographers and editors who are comfortable working with a variety of tools and willing to take initiative on their ideas.

Some of the learning objectives of the Internship are as follows:
• Access, exposure to, and collaboration with some of the world's leading sports photography professionals
• Training in our proprietary workflow software as well as industry standard tools for editing and transmitting photography on deadline
• Observe and practice live content capture, editing, production, distribution and asset management of stills and footage
• Broaden understanding of the relationship between capture and production of content, coverage of a sporting event, and the differences in distribution and licensing editorial content and paid content

What You’ll Need:

We recognize that the barriers to entry to professional photography are high. We have created an opportunity where eager and enthusiastic photographers are supported, regardless of current equipment status.

We ask you are comfortable and open to working with a team of photographers and editors, and that you take direction and feedback well.

You understand, or have interest in learning, Adobe Photoshop and other content management tools as well as proprietary workflow solutions.

You must be available to work nights and weekends.

You must have the ability to travel, domestically and internationally, at times. This includes a valid passport.

We will provide you with a full Canon kit for the duration of your internship (e.g., camera, accessories, laptop).

Nice to Have:

There is no one thing that makes an application stand out. In general, Getty Images is looking for a keen eye, passion, and variety in your portfolio that demonstrates all aspects of photography with videography as a bonus, but not required. We do not expect applicants to have previous professional sports event experience, but familiarity with professional sport events and culture certainly helps.

• Cover letter with 1000 words on what you hope to gain from the Getty Images Sport Internship
• Link to an online portfolio
• Links to Instagram and other image based social media handles (not in place of a portfolio)

Upon successful completion of the internship program, you will have real-world experience in shooting sports events, and a comprehensive understanding of editing, captioning, and image distribution. You will have professional content to use in your portfolio and will have the opportunity to continue with Getty Images as a contributing freelance photographer. 

What You Can Expect (Physical and Mental Demands & Requirements):

    • Frequent communication with others to exchange information (Required)
    • Occasionally moving objects up to 40 lbs. and frequently moving objects up to 20 lbs (Required)
    • Frequent sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing; Time of each will vary (Required)
    • Constant operation of computer and frequent usage of other office machinery (Required)
    • Frequent repetition of motions and gestures that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers (Required)
    • Constant assessment of accuracy and thoroughness of the work assignment. (Required)
    • Regularly operating technology
    • Potential for regional and international travel
    • Performing role functions in a loud and noisy environment
    • Performing role functions in outdoor elements that may involve low and elevated temperatures, precipitation, and wind
    • Performing role functions in the presence of bright/flashing lights 
$30 - $30 an hour
The starting salary range for this position at the time of posting is USD $30/hr to USD $30/hr. Getty Images has different ranges in different locations within the US, and this range represents the starting base pay range. Actual compensation will depend on factors including but not limited to: qualifications, geographic location, skills, experience, certification, business needs, performance, and level of responsibility along with the requirements of the position.
