Linguistic Data Analyst - Montreal, Calgary, or Mexico City

Due to the current conditions and impact of Covid-19, this key position will initially work from home, until such a time when we return to our office.

Who You Are:
This position works closely with the Global Vocabulary Manager the Search Data Strategy Team, the Data Science Team and the Search Engineering Team to ensure that the quality and prioritization of global search vocabulary term development is done according to known global customer search needs and standards for site search. The position uses linguistic skills to process incoming customer search and asset interaction data, as well as company internal controlled vocabulary data, and makes data driven recommendations about optimizing alignment of search results with customer intent.

Your Next Challenge

    • Analysis of language data, with a focus on global customer search data to help stakeholders identify and prioritize search vocabulary development work based on customer interaction data, and target regional customer vocabulary and search needs through data trends.
    • Generation of search engine and/or vocabulary ideas for implementation and identifies the best methods for prioritization of vocabulary work across platforms and languages
    • Support of translation processes in multiple languages
    • Cross-functional partnering to ensure vocabulary work best supports search and site needs across languages
    • Development of reports that demonstrate the impact of customer intent aligned vocabulary localization and/or the impact of business partnerships (SEO, sales/research) with a goal of utilizing reporting to develop and evolve workflows/processes
    • Assistance in the development of tools and software sought to improve the quality of service offered to users of the Getty Images search vocabulary

What You'll Need

    • Bachelor’s degree or higher with a focus on Linguistics/Computational Linguistics, or comparable studies and experience in an interdisciplinary area combining linguistics and data analytics
    • Advanced proficiency in SQL, including proficiency in Database Query Languages such as MSSQL and Hive SQL
    • Advanced proficiency in Excel (including VBA, Pivot Tables)
    • Proficiency in Python (and working with relevant ML/NLP libraries; familiarity with SpaCy, pymorphy2, nltk, pandas)
    • Working knowledge and familiarity with json, APIs, RegEx
    • Working knowledge and hands-on experience with data modelling and data warehouse
    • Thorough understanding of Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing methodology and its application to localization
    • English fluency required
    • Knowledge of additional languages is a plus, French or Spanish preferred
    • Understanding of online search systems, search vocabulary rules and processes, and key-wording standards is a plus
    • Experience working in a customer focused environment
    • Ability to work successfully within a global team involving regular communication with remote contributors
    • Ideal candidate is a self-motivated, highly organized, and creative individual

Mental and Physical Demands:

Frequent communication with others to exchange information.
Occasionally moving objects up to 20 lbs and frequently moving objects up to 10 lbs.
Frequent sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing; Time of each will vary.
Constant operation of computer and frequent usage of other office machinery, including (but not limited to) calculator, copy machine, computer printer, etc.
Constant assessment of accuracy and thoroughness of the work assignment.
