Senior Front End Software Engineer - United States or Canada

Who You Are:

    • You are a professional Software engineer that has experience working on and leading software development projects. You have professional experience working with web technologies such as React and Ruby. You are passionate about writing robust software that will be seen by thousands of people around the world every day. You care deeply about the quality of the code you write and are comfortable giving and receiving feedback on merge requests and code reviews. You understand your core technologies deeply. You understand the impacts of one development approach vs another and can articulate the ramifications through both a business and technical lens.
    • You enjoy collaborating with teams of other skilled engineers to unravel complicated problems. You collaborate well with your coworkers and ask questions when something is not clear or you are faced with a complicated issue. You enjoy taking a leadership role on the team, helping to clarify requirements for others, or jumping in to help tackle difficult problems. You enjoy learning about new technologies and how they might be applicable to help surmount challenges you encounter. You like to share what you have learned with your teammates so that they can share and grow from your experience.

Your Next Challenge:

    • You will join a body of highly-collaborative software engineers that are comfortable working with a diverse set of tools and are willing to take initiative on their ideas.
    • As a Senior software engineer you will not only be a member of the team, but a leader within the team. You will participate in code reviews, share reflections on your team's progress and promote the highest bar of code quality wherever possible. You will actively join conversations about how to best approach the features that your team is being requested to deliver. You will also play a role in the larger development team working with other Senior Engineers on other teams sustain alignment and standardization between teams and their parallel efforts.
    • You will also interact with the other parts of the Getty Images Inc. technology team, collaborating with designers, data-scientists, product managers and other partners to help build enterprise grade software to delight our customers. You will be engaged to help estimate features, provide technical feedback as well as support the production website.
    • We value learning and development at Getty Images. We devote time for personal learning both during the course of business as well as hosting dedicated hack-a-thons and internal learning events to help everyone feel like they can grow both personally and expertly.

What You'll Need:

    • A validated understanding of ES6 and modern JavaScript for the web.
    • At least 2-5 years of career experience writing code within a React.js framework.
    • 2 or more years of on-the-job experience with Ruby on Rails.
    • Experience with version control tools like Git.
    • Experience in web development, and the basics of HTML and CSS and the semantic meaning of these tags. You have experience writing well-structured and maintainable markdown using standards such as BEM.
    • An understanding of SRE and how assure that, when problems arise, the engineering team is the first to know there is a problem rather than finding out from customer reports.
    • Capability to work independently on a project, refine unclear requirements, and collaborate within a multi-functional team to ensure that you are delivering the value our business partners require.
    • A strong worth ethic, and a desire to grow and learn!

Nice to Have:

    • A working understanding of SEO and how to ensure pages are setup to best allow search engines to crawl and index pages.
    • Professional experience with AngularJS 1.4*
    • Experience with other web frameworks and libraries such as Vue, Angular, etc.
    • Knowledge of AWS, and infrastructure as code using technologies such as Terraform.
    • B.Sc In Computer Science or Software Engineering or applicable degree or certificate program.

Mental and Physical Demands:

    • Frequent communication with others to exchange information.
    • Frequent sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing; Time of each will vary.
    • Constant operation of computer and frequent usage of other office machinery, including (but not limited to) calculator, copy machine, computer printer, etc.
    • Frequent repetition of motions and gestures that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers. (Required)
Due to the current conditions and impact of Covid-19, this key position will initially work from home, until such a time we open our offices. At the time of the local office opening, employees and managers will partner to determine the work site location in line with our Flexible working policy.
