Through a competitive recruitment process, we identify daring and innovative university graduates and early- to mid-career professionals from around the world and pair them with amazing partner organizations and government agencies in the US, East Africa (Rwanda and Uganda), and Southern Africa (Malawi and Zambia). Our fellows spend a year in their placement devoting their unstoppable energy to making the world a healthier place for all people, everywhere. Whether they are working with a small grassroots organization like HIPS in Washington, DC to ensure sex workers have access to critical health services, or with the Ministry of Health in Zambia researching patient use of HIV testing and counseling, each fellow plays an essential role in the health equity movement.
Fellows come together five times a year for additional training, community building, leadership development, and mentorship to become audacious, resilient, and highly-networked changemakers. Each one of our fellows has the capacity to change the world – and many already are – and we are grateful to work closely with them to amplify their impact. Since its founding in 2009, GHC has supported nearly 800 fellows working at various levels of the health system, across issue areas and across continents, and our community gets stronger every year.
The US Country Manager is a passionate and organized leader in our growing global team. The past eight years have been full of exciting and rapid growth for GHC, and we are in need of a US Country Manager to provide dedicated support to our fellows, alumni and partner organizations in-country. The Country Manager reports to and works closely with the SVP of Programs in a both internal and external-facing role. You will be thinking through the most effective way to cultivate and support the talent of our fellows as an influential community of diverse leaders. Your tireless commitment to their success and the knack for optimistic problem-solving will be an absolute must.

- Serve, under the SVP of Programs, as first line of contact for all fellows in-region, coordinating with the operations team to ensure that housing, financial, travel, and general fellowship logistics for fellows are taken care of throughout the year.
- Manage US Country Program budget
- Support & oversee fellows: Conduct regular check-ins with each fellow, offering supportive accompaniment through professional and personal development during the fellowship year; Support completion of fellow responsibilities such as blogging, public engagement activities, and attendance at workshops.
- Country-based activities: Organize country-based activities and events for fellows, including quarterly workshops, a mid-year retreat, and city-based events and opportunities to foster community building and leadership development.
- Manage and supervise US Country Team members, which includes the US Program Manager and US Operations Associate.
- Assist with fellow recruitment and outreach, including the fellow selection process and new fellow onboarding; Serve as a GHC representative at events and in coordinating alumni and fellows when needed.
- Collaborate on developing strategic partners in advising, advocacy and general programming.
- Work with the Director of Partnerships on networking and recruiting efforts with potential new placement organizations in the US, including expansion opportunities, in coordination with the SVP of Programs.
- Work with new and existing placement organizations to develop fellow position descriptions, negotiate cost share agreements, coordinate contracts, and ensure they are prepared to onboard and host fellows.
- Communicate with placement organization supervisors / staff contacts regularly during fellowship year, including site visits, formal evaluations, selection process support, etc.
- Collaborate in the design and facilitation of alumni programming and support:
- Work closely with SVP of Programs and Alumni Program Team to help design and expand alumni activities.
- Identify areas for public engagement, professional development and knowledge sharing that alums can participate in to raise the profile of young leaders working in global health.
- Coordinate US-based weekend alumni leadership summit; ensure all programming and logistics are arranged for attending alums.
- Oversee US housing coordination, including securing new leases and lease renewals, preparing housing for new fellows (e.g., housing assignments, furniture inventory and replacements, coordinating vendors), and managing housing-related requests.

- Minimum 8 years work experience, 10-12 years work experience strongly preferred
- Demonstrated ability to manage systems and processes
- Experience with event planning and/or program logistics management
- Experience managing and coordinating a team
- Cross-cultural competency; experience working in another country or in a cross-cultural environment strongly preferred
- Commitment to health and social justice issues and understanding of global health and development landscape
- Comfortable working under frequent, tight timelines and delivering high-quality work products on time
- Demonstrated supervisory experience (interns acceptable)
- Counseling, guidance, mentoring, or leadership development experience preferred
- Experience in training or curriculum development a plus, though not required
