Global Health Corps (GHC) mobilizes a global community of emerging leaders to build the movement for health equity. Through a competitive recruitment process, we identify daring and innovative university graduates and early- to mid-career professionals from around the world and pair them with amazing partner organizations and government agencies in the US, East Africa, and Southern Africa. Our Fellows spend a year in their placement devoting their unstoppable energy to making the world a healthier place for all people, everywhere. Whether they are working with a small grassroots organization like HIPS in Washington, DC to ensure sex workers have access to critical health services, or with the Ministry of Health in Zambia researching patient use of HIV testing and counseling, each fellow plays an essential role in the health equity movement.

Fellows come together five times a year for additional training, community building, leadership development, and mentorship to become audacious, resilient, and highly-networked change makers. Each one of our fellows has the capacity to change the world – and many already are – and we are grateful to work closely with them to amplify their impact. Since its founding in 2009, GHC has supported nearly 740 fellows working at various levels of the health system, across issue areas and across continents, and our community gets stronger every year.

The Candidate
The HR Assocaite/Coordinator is a badass, hyper-organized, detail-obsessed, people-loving, client-centric individual. S/he will join our Global talent Team in GHC/s New York City office.  S/he is someone who is always willing and able to find a way to get to ‘yes’ and get things done.  The Compliance and Benefits Associate/Coordinator is someone who is excited to think about how laws and policies can best be integrated to make a happy, employee-centric work place; someone who can break down complex legal ideas into manageable bites for our employees; someone who is obsessed with planning, tracking, and all the little moving details that make up international compliance. Basically, if you consider the latest US Dept. of Labor brief as “light reading”, are the J.K. Rowling of policy writing, and would rather watch videos on Harassment Prevention in the Workplace than the latest M. Night Shyamalan movie, we’d like to talk to you!   This person will report to the Senior Director of Global Talent and will serve as the key point person for compliance and benefits for our Malawi, Rwanda, Uganda, United States, and Zambia offices and employees.


    • Benefits and Compensation
    • Lead the management of employee benefits for all countries of operation including enrollment of new employees in benefits plans, managing open enrollment periods, and customer service for employees throughout the year
    • Assist the Senior Director of Global Talent in annual plan research, cost-benefit analysis, and assessment of equity across and within offices
    • Ensure organizational compliance with compensation and benefits practices, laws, and regulations while understanding the difference between government-mandated, government-provided, and voluntary benefit approaches
    • Serve as liaison between insurance brokers and GHC
    • Assist the Senior Director of Global Talent to research, design and implement annual compensation and benefit standards based on industry benchmarks
    • Ensure GHC employee pay is aligned with local, state, and federal laws including base salary, taxes, and reporting

    • Personnel Tracking
    • Maintain Personnel Documents for all employees across all country offices using our HRIS system (ADP)
    • Work with the Global Talent Team during the onboarding process of new employees and interns to ensure proper execution of all HR documents
    • Employment Law & Regulations: Compliance & Policies
    • Assist the Senior Director of Global Talent to maintain GHC’s labor and employment compliance in all GHC operating countries, including tracking of key employment dates, employee notifications, and document gathering  
    • Serve as lead to stay up-to-date on new labor and employment laws in all five GHC countries and assist in integration into GHC policies and practices
    • Ensure that workforce activities are accurately reflected in job descriptions and other key documents (e.g., applicant tracking systems, job postings, performance management systems)
    • Assist the Senior Director of Global Talent and GHC’s legal counsel in maintaining and updating all GHC policies and forms to ensure GHC’s compliance in all our countries of operation
    • Training and Performance Management
    • Work with the Senior Director of Global Talent to develop and implement robust performance management system for our culturally diverse employees that build stronger feedback channels between managers and employees
    • Community Initiatives
    • Develop cross-cultural initiatives for our global employees to further strengthen our community
    • Employee Services
    • Track paid time off to ensure that employees are taking all allotted vacation and comp days in compliance with local time off laws to prevent possible burn out
    • Work with multiple stakeholders at all levels and prioritize employee requests to determine appropriate response based on current organization and team goals
    • Handle confidential information such as performance management, salaries, and conflict resolution
    • Conduct due diligence when consulting on workplace disputes
    • Additional Responsibilities
    • Assist in day-to-day tasks and various other responsibilities as needed
    • Notify the Senior Director of Global Talent on key information and updates coming from stakeholders

Qualifications & Experience

    • Bachelor’s Degree, with one or more year direct HR or paralegal experience required
    • 1-3 years of direct Human Resources or paralegal experience for the Associate position
    • 3-5 years of direct Human Resources or paralegal experience for the Coordinator position
    • Familiarity and/or experience in personnel administration and related employment law and regulations required
    • Proven ability in managing customer service requests in timely, accurate and professional manner
    • Superior organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.  We’re looking for someone who is obsessive about details, tracking, and organization
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and superior written communication skills: The HRAC will have daily contact with our global team members and should be able to engage with them in a friendly and professional way
    • The ability to multi-task while effectively prioritizing and meeting deadlines
    • Tech savviness and interest in new technologies; ability to use Google tools, Dropbox, applicant tracking software, scheduling apps, and other online platforms to share and streamline work
    • Judgment in maintaining confidential information
    • Experience with payroll required; experience with ADP a plus
