The Grants Coordinator plays a key role in the stewardship of prospective and existing grants, and is responsible for the effective management and control of grants obtained by Global Health Corps. This role will serve as the lead grant writer, primary administrative contact, and internal coordinator of all grant activities. The goal is to create a seamless transition from the moment we’re invited to submit a proposal until the investment is complete and final reports submitted. The Grants Coordinator proactively develops strong relationships with key staff across teams at GHC to ensure authentic and compelling proposals and reports, and facilitate appropriate grant submission, spending, and reporting, which contributes to high-quality stewardship with GHC funders.
The Grants Coordinator reports to the Director of Strategic Development, working with them to evaluate grant opportunities as part of the fundraising process, and to ensure strong proposal submissions and increased support for the organization. The Grants Coordinator will serve as a crucial member of GHC’s fundraising team, telling the story of the impact of great leadership on health equity and ensuring our movement is powered forward.
Global Health Corps:
Global Health Corps (GHC) is building a new generation of global health leadership. We believe that solving the world’s most pressing global health challenges requires better and more connected leaders who are able to work across traditional boundaries like geography, sector, and issue area to engineer stronger global health systems. We need more than clinicians and providers; we need management consultants, engineers, artists, and architects. We need new leadership voices and new perspectives, especially those representing the populations most often left out and unheard.
GHC competitively recruits and selects emerging leaders from around the world who represent a wide range of skillsets and areas of expertise, all of which are critical to rebuilding and strengthening health systems. GHC is developing a cadre of health equity leaders through a unique leadership development program that utilizes experiential and formal learning methods.
Through a 13 month fellowship program, fellows address a wide-range of health issues with high-impact grassroots organizations, NGOs, and ministries of health in Rwanda, Malawi, Uganda, Zambia, and the United States. Fellowship positions are demand-driven, ensuring that our fellows fill real-time health systems gaps and serve to amplify the great work already in progress. Placement organizations benefit from the skills and energy of fellows, as well as the support of GHC. We are building a network of young change makers who share the common belief that health is a human right.
- Develop and write compelling and concise grant proposals and reports, pulling in other team members as needed and collaborating to build templates to simplify GHC’s grant writing process.
- Engage with staff across GHC’s teams and offices to better learn the program and to gather critical information in non-burdensome ways to enhance proposals and reports, and to share organically with donors in additional interactions.
- Act as liaison with donors, under the direction of the Director of Strategic Development or CEO, to ensure timely and compliant submissions that enhance funder relationships.
- Maintain updated grant and all donation information in Salesforce.
- Administer grants for GHC, including: monitor grants and support compliance with grant guidelines, under direction of the Director of Strategic Development; communicate with internal constituents such as the Finance Team to ensure grant compliance; monitor grant activities to ensure compliance with all pertinent regulations and deadlines.
- Provide post-award administrative support including expenditure approvals, accounting detail and reporting requirement information: assist in the resolution of post-award administrative issues; submit interim reports, and review closeout documents.
- Assist with the administration of grant finances, including the reconciliation of monthly grant accounts, and forecasting grant receipts and expenditures.
- Support the Strategic Partnerships Manager and the Communications and Advocacy manager on special donor projects.
- Contribute to a collaborative, effective, and positive fundraising team.
Minimum Experience Requirements
- 3- 5 years of professional work experience
- Previous grants management experience in a complex environment.
- Comparable experience in health or international development with a focus on project management or grant administration is highly desired.
- Strong communications skills, including experience communicating with a range of audiences.
- A passion for collaboration across teams and countries, with demonstrated skill for managing projects.
- Commitment to and passion for GHC’s mission.
In addition, the ideal candidate:
- Is truly the most organized person. This person LOVES handling details, and has a near obsession with creating and managing systems (and nudging others to use them). He or she is the person who color-codes their calendar, and keeps spreadsheets to project-manage their vacations (and can still have fun!).
- Is a great communicator – both in writing and in person in a variety of settings. He or she is known for sending emails that are clear, concise, and generate actions - and for translating what was said in conversation into effective grant proposals. Loves to use words to move others.
- Is a motivator to others. This person has excelled in roles that require complex project management, and influencing a wide range of people to get things done, without any formal authority – because his or her approach is so engaging, and clear in identifying how everyone can win by helping out. He or she might be a classroom volunteer, able to get other parents involved in ways that work for them and fill the school’s needs as well.
- Loves nurturing relationships – and using systems to facilitate that. This person remembers names and faces, is passionate about listening to people, understanding their needs, and finding ways to move them to action in support of something bigger.
- Is an eager learner – gets excited about understanding new issues, program areas, and nuances of GHC’s work in order to more authentically communicate it to donors. Is willing to do what it takes to get the job done as a team player.
- Gets excited about understanding the details of things that seem boring to others. He or she enjoys reading through lots of material to understand how things work, to develop a strategy and plan for how to support all those moving parts. This person has a comfort level with financial and accounting concepts – can easily read and understand a budget; is a tenacious researcher, and most likely has worked with grants before.
- Is a rock. When everyone else is losing their cool, they are at their best. NOTHING fazes him or her.
- Is a leader, skilled at working with a wide range of people, and navigating complex dynamics and partnerships.
