About the Role:

Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will serve as a key strategic partner in managing all aspects of accounting and financial reporting. You’ll oversee a talented team of 3+ accounting professionals, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency across all financial functions. This position offers a hybrid work schedule, allowing for flexibility while maintaining strong collaboration with leadership and colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

    • Oversee accounting operations, including general ledger management, financial reporting, payroll, budgeting, accounts payable/receivable, and tax compliance.
    • Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
    • Manage cash flow and investment balances, and prepare accurate forecasts and financial analyses.
    • Lead month-end and year-end closing processes and ensure compliance with GAAP and all relevant regulations.
    • Direct the proper recording and reporting of grants and restricted funds in accordance with nonprofit accounting standards.
    • Collaborate with the CFO and executive team on strategic financial planning and decision-making.
    • Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting team members to support professional growth and strong performance.
    • Oversee annual audit preparation and coordinate with external auditors.

Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required.
    • 5–7 years of progressive nonprofit accounting experience, including prior experience as a Controller.
    • CPA preferred (or CMA).
    • Deep understanding of fund accounting and management of restricted funds.
    • Proficiency with accounting software—MIP Fund Accounting experience preferred but not required.
    • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
    • Commitment to advancing educational equity and excellence.

$110,000 - $125,000 a year
